FLIGHTS.COM-- any recent experience?
They offer great fares to Europe, but as previous posters have said, their add-ons are vague and confusing. Has anyone dealt with them lately, and what was the outcome? Thanks. Jess

Ripoff

I had a so-called discount ticket from Detroit to Paris last September. I cancelled my trip after the incident. They refused to refund my ticket and only refunded 50% of the ticket, which is money Northwest refunded, they kept the profit in their greedy little pockets.

After the ticket was completely priced-out with all the add-on-fees, I would have only saved $20 off a Northwest ticket. They have a NO REFUND POLICY.

I'd have to say they're a jip. Shop elsewhere.

We flew home from Frankfurt to MSP on NW last month with tickets from Flights.com (formerly TISS). Our 4th trip with them, and again no problems.

Interesting! One pro and one con (with good reason, Travel Girl.) Any others? Thanks. Jess

I bought our tickets (Lufthansa) through flights.com(tiss.com) for a trip to Italy in April 2001 and had no problems. We did have to send copies of our passports and copies of my mom's driver's license (we used her credit card to buy the tickets).

I have used Flights on 3 different occasions and have been pleased. Of course you have to comparison shop and of course they are non-refundable. Aren't all consolidator/discounted tickets? I am now visiting my family with the London-Detroit tickets I bought with Flights in January. $400 RT incl. taxes for this SUMMER trip. No way could I have gotten a better price, I kept checking. I got a really good seat on AA while others were bumped and I still get FF mileage credit too. Of course they do operate a bit differently but I've had no problems.

Why does travel girl have a good reason for not liking flights.com, Jess? Who refunds discount tickets? Why would you expect them to? Getting 50% back from any carrier is a good deal.

I've never used them, but I don't think travel girl's story offers a good example for bad service.

Thanks to all for the information. Jess

We used flights.com in March to purchase our tickets to Paris (just got back from our trip 2 days ago!). The only problem I had was when I tried to purchase the tickets over the internet . . . it took a long while to get the transaction to "take". My sister, whose family traveled with us, had the same problem.

When calculating the cost of your tickets, don't forget that flights.com charges you a certain percentage (maybe 3% or 3.5%? I don't remember) for using a credit card to book. Even with the credit card usage fee, our tickets on flights.com were much cheaper than we found anywhere else (Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, travelteam, etc.) We checked sites daily for a few weeks before booking.

Good luck!

I used flights.com for my flight to London in May. No problems. It wasn't a huge discount, but it was the cheapest I could find for a direct flight leaving on a Saturday and coming back on the Sunday before Memorial Day. The confirmation e-mail encouraged purchasing travel insurance. I opted against it since I didn't find the cost worth it for the ticket.
