Flight transfer in Malpensa

I am trying to catch a flight from Malpensa airport in Milan to Rome. I will be arriving at the Malpensa airport 19:00 on Jan. 15, 2013. I found a flight on easyJet to Rome that leaves at 20:45, will I have enough time to catch this flight? I will have one carry on and a checked bag.

Where is your flight into Milan coming from?

Copenhagen through icelandair

The Easy Jet terminal is not in the same terminal as 99 percent of other airlines. There is a shuttle and you can hope a cab, but you are cutting it tight. You are unlikely to face much in the way of passport control at that hour no matter where you are coming from, and if you are in danger of missing your connection, you can ask for help from terminal personnel to get to the head of the lines.

However, all bets are off if your plane lands late, since you are looking to book a separate ticket. If you miss the Easy Jet boarding, you'll have to pay full price for another plane ticket or catch the train, probably the next morning. Have you checked to see what your air options are if you miss the flight? (There are no fast trains to Rome from Milan until the next day).

If you are worried about buying a plane ticket you might end up losing, spend the night in Milan next to the train station and catch a fast train out the next morning -- a 3 hour ride to the center of Rome.

This is a very risky plan. I think there are two prong issues and you are constrained by the slower of the two issues.

1. Person: You don't have passport control at Milano - good, but you still must move yourself from whatever airline that took you from Copenhagen to the Milan departure gate in time. I think Easyjet has no compromise strict 40min cut off for those with hold baggage.

2. Baggage: I didn't think Easyjet transferred hold baggage for anyone even between their planes. So what is the chance that you can retrieve your hold baggage from your Copenhagen flight and meet the Easyjet hold baggage check-in cut off?

Because the last fast train from Milano Centrale to Roma is 20:10, you really don't have a ground based backup plan. I think if you go with this plan, have a very credible plan B. I hope you have gained something very worthwhile by adding Malpensa as a layover point between Copenhagen and Roma.

You can improve your chance by traveling with carry-on baggage only.
