Flight help!
My husband and I are looking to go away for a week around the 4th of July. We are flexible where to go we just don't want to spend an insane amount of money on tickets (which they seem to be). Any suggestions on great places (ideally international) where tickets would be less that $1,000 max?
We are hoping to find a last minute deal but so far we haven't. Thanks. |
$1000 max per person..? (which is much more likely than total for 2)

Airline prices are really high right now. I saw a good price on US Air's tickets to Lisbon, Portugal, but they use a 757 aircraft; 3x3 seating.
Flights are NOT full, but the prices are high. I suggest you wait until one week before you plan to go and find out what is the cheapest. Pick out five different places that you would like to visit, and then book. I realize half the excitment of traveling is the excitment before flying, but with the current prices. |
I just got an email from Continental Airlines about sale fares to Costa Rica from 221 each way. It didn't give dates but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Anyone ever use www.lastminutetravel.com

Thanks everyone. Is a week before the flight too close to wait or will I get a good deal then? The truth is we are semi flexible in terms of dates as long as we get to capitalize on July 4th as an extra date. We are looking to pay no more than $1000 per person (though less would be ideal).

Delta used to send weekly emails regarding last minute specials but I haven't gotten any lately.
It is extremely unlikely that you will find a last minute sale fare that involves travel over July 4th. If you find something in your budget now, you'd better book it. Having said that, there is a window of oppertunity when you can snag a good fare during a peak travel period if an airline adds an additional flight due to high demand. I don't know how to find these in advance but maybe someone else will know. |

From Honolulu? Hackensack? Helena? Hong Kong? |
where are you flying from?

The best deals (even on Southwest) are usually 21 days out for the less expensive fare-I don't think that you can count on cheap fares for international traveling in July as that is really high season over there for most cities. Then you have to find a hotel.............

We really need to know where you're starting from to even guess how far a thousand bucks can get you!

I would look at Travelzoo or Gate1 to see what deals they have....
