Train.

Ditto - the train will be faster. Most likely cheaper. Certainly more flexible. More comfortable too.

The train takes 3:47 and cost is 76€. Trains depart hourly (rush hour and lunch hour will have 2-3 departures per hour).

Is this the same trip you are taking with a 20mo toddler? About the only reason you might fly this route is when you continue flying immediately after you arrive in Rome. Besides all the reasons mentioned above favoring a train, you also avoid having to go thru the airport check-in process, security check, and being locked in a sardine can cabin with a 20mo toddler in tow.

Having flown from Rome to Venice last year in the middle of a trip (not my choice), I would wholeheartedly recommend taking the train. On the flight last year, the airline lost one of my traveling companion's luggage (it ended up in Pisa instead of Venice. Please, please, please take the train.

also-- there's a great sleeper train on that route, if you think the toddler is up to it. it would save a day if you're at all short of time.

Sorry for my ignorance kawh, what is sleeper train and how do i find out abour it. website?

The ICN 771 night train leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 23:30 and arrives at Roma Termini at 06:20. Unlike most night trains, there are no sleeper cabins with beds on this train. It has reclining seats and four-bunk couchettes. You will share the couchette with strangers. The door locks from the inside. The Familia fare for one adult and one child under 12 in a couchette is €98.40. Book at trenitalia.com up to 90 days in advance. The site is available in English.

Book on the same site to get a Familia fare for a daytime high-speed EuroStar Italia train.
