Flight from Florida to Italy

We are going to Italy in March and have decided on the following places to visit.

Rome
Venice
Naples
Florence

I was looking at the multi-destination tickets. Should I flight into Venice and out of Naples or other other way around. Not sure were i should fly into and out of to come back home. Was trying to see what would work better as far as flight. I have not decided in what order we will visit the cites so I can change those around according to the flight schedule.

Any input on this would really HELP!!!!!

Into Venice, for two reasons: Flights OUT of Venice often leave at very inconvenient early times, and Venice is the ideal place to walk off the jetlag. Aside from walking, all you can do is take a vaporetto (public boats, like buses), or a gondola of course if you have tons of money... So you stay in the fresh air, you move about at your leisure, and you get over the jetlag that way. Nice!

Then book a flight home from Naples, and if there is nothing good to be had that way, the train ride to Rome is not all that long.

So make it Venice, Florence (which is on the way from Venice to Rome anyway), then Rome, then Napoli.

Thank you for your input. Would you happen to know of any good places to stay in Venice that are not that expensive. Looking for something in between 100-150 dollars a night, can't seem to find anything. Everything i seem to find is outside of Venice and about a 20 min ride into the city center.

I agree with DalaiLlama. It is a pain taking a flight out of Venice when you're connecting to an international flight. The hotel below is nice. Also check tripadvisor.com they have a lot to choose from with reviews. Then contact the hotel directly.

Try this - not swank, not shabby, if you don't mind stairs (no elevator when we were there), quiet and in an excellent location close to Santa Lucia station and major vaporetto stops:

Try the Hotel Ai do Mori in Venice. We've stayed there, and enjoyed it. It's not too expensive.

I need some HELP!!!!

I have looked at all the flights and have figured out that flying into Venice and out of Rome will not work for me since I am planning on going to Naples and would not like to stop and Rome then go to Naples then back to Rome to catch my flight. A flight from Naples is a bit more expensive than what I was hoping to pay. I have looked into flying into Venice and out of Pisa. Finishing my trip in Florence or even staying my last night in Pisa to make it easier to get to the airport on time. The flight from Pisa leaves at 7:35 am is that to early for a flight out? Will i be able to find transportation to the airport early enough to get to the airport? Also, is the airport in Pisa organized or am i going to be in a mess?

Thanks for any info that you can give me

Fly into Pisa, take Terravision shuttle bus to Florence (or train), visit Florence, train to Venice, take budget airline to Naples (EasyJet), visit Naples, train to Rome, fly home from Rome.

Pretty good plan.

DalaiLlama Sep 15th, 2010 04:13 PM

kybourbon's plan should workm no? I see Meridiana flighs from Venice to Naples for less than 40 bucks, Altalia and easyJet in the fifties, www.skyscanner.com

A flight at 7:35 from Pisa is not recommended unless you stay the night in Pisa and do your diligence - line up a taxi or have a number and know how to make a phone call, all that commonsense stuff, and see if there's a train (if you stay close enough to the station Pisa Centrale) at www.ferroviedellostato.it - afaik the earliest is at 6:25 which is too late.

If you can't fly out of Napoli, that's no loss, the train back to Rome only takes a little over 2 hours.

Your best bet based on my direct experience is to fly into Rome, and out of Venice. Use the trains to move around Italy. Rome to Naples, Naples to Florence and finally Venice. Good flight prices and the most convenient schedules. There are good international flights mid to late morning out of Venice. You will have to get up early and take the Allaguna to the airport, but it works fine.

and to make it even more confusing (sorry, I really mean to help!), I would fly into Venice, then go to Florence, train to Napoli, train to Rome, fly home from Rome.

The little "backtracking" is Napoli to Rome, but it shouldn't be that much ... am I wrong?

Personally, I prefer non-stop flights, which means leaving from Rome (or Venice). I have yet to find a direct flight to the US from any of the "smaller" cities mentioned (Florence, Pisa, Napoli).

which airline are you using?

kybourbon Sep 15th, 2010 05:24 PM

Which airline has direct flights to Venice?

kybourbon Sep 15th, 2010 05:25 PM

FYI - Delta flies PSA/JFK.

screen_name_taken Sep 15th, 2010 05:37 PM

We are flying Delta JFK/PSA and again Delta VCE/JFK. I could not a non-stop PSA/JFK for the trip back home, => VCE/JFK

kybourbon Sep 15th, 2010 05:57 PM

s_n_t - I don't get why you posted this since:

There are PSA/JFK flights, but not daily out of season. In season, there are also Naples/JFK flights on Eurofly/Meridiana.

screen_name_taken Sep 15th, 2010 06:34 PM

I meant the only non-stop flights from Italy to JFK on Delta were either out of Rome or Venice. I don't quite understand it either, we could (and will) fly non-stop JFK-PSA, but coming home the PSA-JFK flight was with a stop in Rome. maybe it's the time of year? day of the week? not sure, but that's what I came up with. So, non-stop VCE/JFK for us.

sorry, i probably should have mentioned our travel dates ...duh!
we leave NY 10/21 and fly back 11/1

RJD Sep 16th, 2010 03:33 AM

If you are still making up your mind about plane reservations at this point you may be in trouble. Also the schedule is really too limited to do four cities any justice.

Dukey1 Sep 16th, 2010 04:08 AM

I disagree that the schedule is too limited to do the cities "any justice" it all depends on what you want to see and what interests you. You could spend WEEKS in Florence alone and by SOME people's reckoning you STILL won't have done it "justice" so my advice and just having come back from Florence AGAIN is STICK to your plan, see what you can, and if you want to return, you probably will.

I assume you have double checked your possible flight plans using the aggregator site www.itasoftware.com...if you haven't yet purchased tickets that is a good site for checking and for possible budget flights you can use whichbudget.com or skyscanner.net
