Flight
I'm flight to Frankfurt so I live in charlotte. I booked a flight to JFK from charlotte and that flight arrives at 6pm and my flight to Frankfurt leaves at 7:42 pm. Can I make it in time? I have only a carry on so no checked luggage. I'll arrive to jfk on my first flight in jfk's terminal 8 and I have to go to terminal 4. Is it possible?
Thanks

Lufthansa check-in cutoff time is 6:42pm (60min before departure), so if your flight is 45min late arriving & you need to check-in, then sorry, you are SOL.
You can reduce your risk by checking in with Lufthansa before you leave Charlotte. (if possible).
You will take the AirTrain from T8 to T4. Total time from when you deplane at your T8 arrival gate to T4 check-in line (if needed) or security line should be about 20min, +/-. ymmv depending on how quickly you move.
If you can't check in with Lufthansa before you leave Charlotte then you have little to no margin for error.

Hopefully you booked CLT-JFK-FRA on one ticket issued by one airline (or alliance). If so, if you misconnect at JFK, you'll be protected by the airline.
If not, you will be totally out of luck. I strongly recommend that you look into travel insurance that has a trip delay/interruption feature that will cover your case.

As usual for this kind of post, the OP did not provide this crucial info. However, it takes a trivial sleuth work to guess that the OP is probably combining these two independent flights.
AA 1972 CLT-JFK 1643-1800 Terminal 8
DL 4 JFK-FRA 1942-945 Terminal 4
The gotcha is, how does one obtain the JFK-FRA boarding pass? The carrier would need to see the passport to issue the boarding pass for this international flight leg. Will Delta or whoever is the carrier at CLT let OP do this? If not, this is another task at JFK. Check-in is not the problem. Delta or whatever is the carrier would let OP check-in online 24 hours before the JFK flight departure.

If Delta has automated kiosks at CLT, she should be able to checkin at that point for the JFK flight and scan her passport then. They generally allow you to checkin at a kiosk for your next flight if it is within 24 hrs.
