Flemings Mayfair in London
 

Has anyone stayed in this hotel -- it's the right location for us -- or if you have any other suggestions it wd be great. Thanks. Kathy

I'm curious too. 20 yrs, ago we stayed at the Green Park Hotel which was just across the street from Flemings. Our Green Park stories are a hoot! However, that property is now a Hilton. We had a typical, English, pretty bad dinner at the Flemings restuarant. I wonder if Flemings has undergone a similar upgrade like the "Green Park"

I regularly eat at the Japanese restaurant, Kiku, next door to the hotel (I will probably be there this weekend). I would be happy to stop in and check it out for you. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know? I agree, it is a great central location. There are a few hotels in that immediate area (not counting the Ritz, of course). Are you interested in any of the others? It would be no problem to check those out as well.

The Green Park may be a Hilton now but I don't think that that has changed it. We have stayed there and eaten in both bars and Fleming's was better, which wasn't saying much. What a shame, these two hotels could be great, considering their location. If you don't mind a walk past Buckingham Palace and through Green Park, I'd recommend the Rubens, though it's in Victoria and not Mayfair.

check out tripadvisor.com. It is not unusual for reviews to be very, very mixed. But here is a review that would chill any prospective visitor:

"After reading the great reviews of the Flemings, we thought we had discovered a "find". We arrived late at night after our trans-Atlantic flight.

"The lobby of the hotel put me on guard. It was very tired looking and not particularly clean.

"We were escorted up the elevator and down a long, long hall (which got dirtier the further we went) to the end where two rooms were opened for us. They both were VERY cramped. The furniture was mismatched, old, and some actually broken.

"The lock on one door did not work, its window opened to an air shaft, the heat was blazing and there was no way to turn it down or A.C.

"The other room was equally shabby. Its heat was a large,stand-alone unit on the floor that was very loud. The bathroom stank of urine.

"My husband went back down to the front desk to ask for different rooms - there were none.

"I made calls to other hotels and got a reservation at 47 Park Street. We left."

Stayed there several years ago and it was no great bargain. The location is good - but the room was tiny (as were all the others we saw) - even for London and the service was disinterested to say the least.

If you like the location, Hilton Green Park across the street is not bad now, the executive rooms on the fifth floor are quite nice.

Kathy, An even better hotel is the Chesterfield, just around the corner from Flemings and the Hilton Green Park. All three hotels are in my favorite area in London. The Green Park is fine if you get a renovated room. I have seen good rates at the Chesterfield on hotelsrus.com,or you can book on their web site redcarnationhotels.com. Good Luck!
