flat irons in Italian hotels
 

Do Italian hotels, in general, carry flat irons for their patrons' use? We are mostly staying in 2 star hotels. I'd rather not bring my own, as I'm bringing only a 21" carry-on. Thanks everyone. This forum is the best!

I seriously doubt that a 4 star would have a flat iron. Make sure if you do bring one it is 110/240V. ((b))

Most 4 star hotels, esp on the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, etc) have hair dryers in the bathrooms so I wouldn't think it a stretch for them to not have an iron available to guests, should they need one. I would think you could ask for an iron from the front desk as housekeeping has them. I have borrowed an iron before at many properties I have stayed at throughout Italy (including pensiones) and even the owners loaned theirs to me! I would not bother bringing an iron in my carry-on. In the event there is not one available, better to bring wrinkle-free clothing (suits, pants, skirt) available at most stores and through on-line catalogs to avoid a possible dilemma.

I think she is talking about a flat iron for her hair. I only know about these things because I did some research for Mrs. Budman to get one that would work in Europe and had ceramic plates. :-) ((b))

If the OP really does mean a "2 star" hotel, I think it is very unlikely she would find one IN the room: it might be possible to ask at the desk...I guess Kelly doesn't really want ot hear that the combo of budget hotels and clothes that MUST be ironed is not a happy one!

And I am even more alarmed at the idea that this device is needed to iron her hair!?!

I'm afraid you are correct LJ. I did NOT want to hear the answer I was sure I was going to receive. Sorry Budman, I should have worded my question differently.

Hey kelly, I know this was not your query and assuming you *are* talking about ironing clothe and not your hair---no hotel in the world that I know of has hair flatirons, one must bring her own---why not just buy a few travel-friendly items that can be rolled for packing and then shaken out and worn w/no ironing necessary?

A few years back my best friend blew out the fuses in her hotel room and nearly started a fire trying to use her flat iron she brought from home. And that was with the power converter!

After a few trips using hotel provided blow dryers, I have since purchased a small one in Italy to use only for European travel. It's been great. Every decent sized Italian city I've ever been in has had a 'drug store' type place where you can buy small electronics. I bet you could easily find a hair flat iron once you get to Italy. Just make it one of the first things you do when you arrive at your first hotel. It's fun to shop in the local stores too. If you're happy with your hair, you'll be happier on your trip! :)

I would think that you could at the least borrow one from the front desk.
