flat/apt/villa rental

Our family of four is looking for flat or apartment --perhaps in the Black Forest or Bavaria area...near the Rhine would be nice too. Has anyone used an especially good internet site for rentals? Or do you have a recommendation on a village to use as a good home base for exploring Black Forest/Rhine area/maybe going into Alsace. Thanks!

Pat, Try http://www.vacationvillas.net/. Especially great places in the Bavaria area. We stayed at http://www.vacationvillas.net/austri...-hauselfi.html in Austria.

You'll find it difficult to explore both the Black Forest (the southern BF near Switzerland is especially attractive) and the Rhine (most scenic part that most visitors want to visit is fairly far north, near Koblenz) from a single base - just too much driving, and too much to see in each area without doing multiple daytrips. I suggest renting for at least a few days in each area instead. (Like the Black Forest, Bavaria is a GIGANTIC region; don't underestimate this fact and try to see, say, Bamberg and Füssen from a single base!)

A good site with thousands of rentals in Germany, and in English: www.accommodation.de

Butyour best strategy will be to contact the local tourist offices and/or their websites; most maintain extensive lists with descriptions and will often advise you on location and book for you if you give them a call.

Some well-located Rhine town bases with rental possibilites you might check into: Boppard, St. Goar, Oberwesel

Black Forest: Titisee, Hinterzarten

Bavaria: too big to make suggestions without knowing your sightseeing goals.
