Flamingo venues in Barcelona
Going to Barcelona in October and would like to see a show, Concerned about a smoke-filled room as my husband has allergies,
|
Is there a chance that auto-correct played a trick on you when typing the headline?
|
Cowboy, Am new at this so please explain your statement.
|
The dance is called flamenco. Flamingos is a bird.
|
Please explain your term "auto-correct". Thanks
|
Thanks for the correction of spelling error.

Look for posts from Fodors regular, Kimberly, our resident flamenco expert. Here's one:

Auto-correct just replaced "Kimhe" with Kimberly. Kimhe is our expert.
|
Auto-correct is when your computer or phone 'corrects' (changes) a word you are typing (and frequently 'corrects' it to a word that you didn't want). There is an automatic corrector embedded in many programs.

One is the Tablao Flamenco Cordobes:

No smoke-filled rooms in any flamenco venues these days, apart from perhaps in the occasional private peña/flamenco club. No smoking in bars, restaurants and public spaces in Spain.
kja has given you great advice. Both Tablao Córdobés and Tablao de Carmen stage only top of the shelf artists. Always all the elements: song, guitar and male and female dancer. The greatetst flamenco artists also tour Barcelona theaters all the time. The program is updated here: https://www.deflamenco.com/concierto...barcelona.html Fabulous Karime Amaya and Farru often dance in Tablao Cordobés. Karime Amaya, the grand-niese of the greatest flamenco dancer in history, Carmen Amaya from Barcelona (1917-1963)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CklXLAvSIyc Farru together with legendary guitarist Paco de Lucía: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrxGsksJusU And Tablao Cordobés also cooperates closely with the spectacular Palau de la Musica in Barcelona. The artists at Tablao Cordobés frequently stage grand shows in Palau de la Música, also in October: http://www.palaumusica.cat/en Real deal flamenco in the Palau on October 4 and 13, and on October 31. the one and only Estrella Morente sings here: http://www.palaumusica.cat/en/progra...ubset=upcoming And the footwork is of course very important in flamenco dance, but much (often most) goes on from waist up. See this fine little video of mesmerizing flamenco dancer Rocío Molina, inviting people to do a so called flamenco flashmob with her in Barcelona: https://www.facebook.com/RocioMolina...1592974593960/ |
*** No smoking in bars, restaurants and public spaces in Spain. ***
That technically is not correct. Smoking is permitted on restaurant, bars and cafe terraces Hotels are also allowed designated smoking bedrooms. I am not going to go into all the regulations on this. Smoking anywhere in the street. However, it is the smog from the amount of diesel engined vehicles in Spain that is a problem. That should be on your mind more than anything else. |
Depending where you are from, you may find more second hand smoke than usual. Take antihistamines, or perhaps have husband discuss an inhaler with his doctor for this trip. As inside is restricted smoking, you can at least move to avoid the outside smoke.

I have to laugh...I couldn't get my best friend to stop saying "flamingo" for flamenco and she was speaking, not having autocorrect problems!
We went to the Tablao de Carmen show in May 2017 and loved it. We've seen flamenco performances a number of times, both in Seville (although many years ago) and more often in San Francisco CA near where we live. The Tablao performance was gorgeous, both in terms of the dancers and the musicians. We got the tapas menu and found it adequate. |
Calling flamenco flamingo was much more common years ago. I still see Granada referred to as Grenada, which is about 4,000 miles away.

Very interesting discussion! Thinking of adding Tablao Cordobés to my itinerary now.

I agree that one would do well to see ALL of a flamenco dancer’s body, and all of the musicians, too – something that I could do at the Tablao de Carmen. In contrast, I could only see parts of any dancer’s body or that of any of the musicians at the Tablao Cordobes when seated, and could generally see feet or legs only if I stood (which did not eliminate all obstructions to my lines of sight). And I couldn’t fully see the musicians at the Tablao Cordobes even if I stood. I enjoyed what I saw at both; my experience at the Tablao de Carmen was memorable for all the right reasons.

That brings to mind a strange Bunuel film (but perhaps all Bunuel's films are strange): That Obscure Object of Desire. |
Hehe, fabulous comment Padraig, usually more than enough with one flamenco dancer, but no joke when the one dancer are two women ;-)
Ángela Molina were one of the Conchitas back then, and here she's the flamenco dancing grandmother in Pablo Bergers brilliant silent Movie Blancanieves/Snow White from 2012, no less than Snow White set in flamenco and bullfighting Sevilla of the 1920's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcCrgPMascs |
Oh, my! I think I may have misspoken!!! I, uh ... LOVE seeing the stunning costumes donned by flamenco dancers, male and female, costumes that IME, provide coverage consistent with normative standards of decency.
I hope I have now navigated my way out of the troubled waters into which I had inadvertently ventured! Oops! (But thanks for pointing out my lapse -- LOL!) |
