Flamenco show- madrid or seville?
 

Any suggestions on where to see a show in either Seville or Madrid. will be in Seville on a weekend and Madrid during the week.

Casa de la Memoria and La Casa del Flamenco are intimate venues with only top artists in Sevilla. No Food, no drinks, just flamenco.

Casa de la Memoria was an absolute hilight of our trip thanks to Kimhe's suggestion. I was not expecting much. The atmosphere is very intimate-perhaps 30 or so folding chairs set up around an elevated stage.

The musicians, singer and dancers kept us mesmerized the whole show without the "kitchy" I was expecting.

Definitely Seville, Flamenco originated here and there are many excellent and more to the point authentic shows still available to see in this region of Andalusia. Tablao El Arenal in Seville is excellent and one of the most popular, be sure to book a table for one of the twice nightly shows as they get booked up in advance.

Flamenco "viene del sur"/(comes from the South/Andalucia) but everyone has to conquer Madrid to get to the top. Madrid is now the flamenco capital of the world. El Arenal in Sevilla stages great artists every now and then with their full meal packages, but you are usually much better off in the places I mentioned above, both in Sevlla and Madrid.

We went to Cardamomo in Madrid in December 2013, it was a great night out.

How far out in advance is it necessary to book one of the Madrid venues, say Cardamomo or Casa Patas? Days, weeks, months? It's likely we would do dinner as well.

In making our hotel reservations for a trip in October I'm surprised to see how many hotels are already partially booked for our dates, perhaps by group package tours who will later release some of the rooms. (This happens in US National Parks, for example).

Do these flamenco shows fill up far in advance? Thanks.

The performances fill up fast when the big artists are on. In both Casa Patas, Cardamomo, Corral de la Moeria, Los Tarantos etc they are always top shelf, but when a really big name is on stage, you must book way ahead. In general, I would recommend to book three-four weeks ahead when the pogram is scheduled.

We didn't book ahead at all for Cardamomo, and it wasn't full. But we're not savvy enough about flamenco to know who the big artists are, and it may have been a slow time of year (also, a Sunday night).

Thanks for the replies. We are not savvy about flamenco either, and will only have a couple dates to chose from. We will read up on it a bit beforehand, and watch more of kimhe's video links. :)

Probably we'll book something about a month out. At least we'll get in if it does turn out to be a big name that sells out early.
