Flamenco in Sevilla
 

Going to be Seville for 5 nights with my family.
Plan to go to Casa de la Memoria for Flamenco show.
Also, would love to see flamenco in a small bar/non snow venue where local people would go.
Any recommendations?
Are some days of the week are better than others?
We are there Friday night through Tue night.

Go to one of the many peñas (small flamenco clubs for local aficionados/flamenco lovers) in Sevilla. They are very welocoming to non-members, and often there are staged or improvised things going on. And you should know that Casa de la Memoria doesn't stage any flamenco "show" in the meaning many dancers and musicians and a grand setting catering to tourists. Intimate venue, and the performance comprices the three basic elements of flamenco; cante (song), toque (guitar) and baile (dance). Only top of the shelf artists perform here. It's popular with tourists, but it can be a great intro to the art and/or a great experience in itself. Locals and flamenco aficionados will of course also go here to see artists such as Pastora Galvan, voted best female flamenco dancer 2010 by Spanish critics, and now probably close to the top of her career. Still Galvan - a native sevillana - has danced more or less once a week in small Casa de la Memoria for at least the past 5-6 years.

Casa de la Memoria is some 200-300 meters from La Azotea and two minutes more from Eslava, both are excellent places.

Having just returned from Sevilla (LOVE the city) and loved Casa de La Memoria, I recommend going to the tapas restaurant, La Pepona, on Orfila 2.

(http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Andalucia.html). It is just one block north of Casa de La Memoria, and at least when we were there right after the early show, we had no problem getting in. Both Azotea and Eslava are excellent, but very popular and very crowded. It was recommended .

It was recommended by the woman who produces the great site on tapas in Sevilla (Azahar Sevilla). Incidentally, we did a tapas tour with her company called, We Love Tapas, which was fabulous.
