Hi amsdon. Thanks for your reply. The date I have in mind is Thursday, Jan. 3. Since it is a Thurs., I am not aware that there is a second show at either venue. Do you have info to the contrary?
I did e-mail El Corral, as their website still shows their November calendar! The other info I got off the Casa Patas website.

Will await your reply. Thanks.

To those flamenco fans who will be in Madrid from Jan. 22-Feb. 2 during the Festival Flamenco Caja Madrid:

There will be 5 special performances at the Teatro Albéniz, Calle de la Paz 11, in Old Madrid

Jan. 29 (cante-ENRIQUE MORENTE)

Jan. 31 (cante, baile, "Zambra&quot

Feb. 1 (cante-EL LEBRIJANO & EL TORTA)

*Feb 2 (gala-MERCHE ESMERALDA and her spectacle, "Mujeres" with Belén Maya)

We hope to attend the 2/2 show.

All performances begin at 8:30. Tickets cost 28 and 33€ and are available by calling the box office:
915 318 311 or
www.entradas.com

Other events, recitals take place at Casa Encendida, Ronda de Valencia 2

And for all those following this thread, Ana María's advice regarding the Madrid tablaos is spot on,
and her deep appreciation for and true understanding of this art form remarkable.

Thanks, amsdon!

Thanks Maribel you flatter me.

If I were in Spain I would certainly attend that 2/2 performance & also the 2/1 looks like a winner too.)

If only DH could handle an itinereary worked around a solid week of "HCFE"
(hard core flamenco entertainment!)

Hi again Irego:

It looks like Morerria has both Angel Munoz & Charo Espino.
I believe they are married, and so I would personally go to that one If I were there.
Seeing a flamenco couple dance in a tablao setting is a special experience in itself.
Show at 10 pm & midnight

here some info on him inparticular
http://www.angelflamenco.com/videos.htm

Have a great time which ever you choose and please let us know how it goes.

Also if you have time try to go to one of the shows in the program Maribel mentioned.

Buen Viaje we are envious here.

Iregeo,
Forgot to mention that we did see Kelien Jiménez last winter at Casa Patas-I wasn't blown away, but we had to go to the early show because of other later plans. Didn't take my own advice about always, always, always attending the last show-it does make a difference!

Haven't see Angel and wife yet, but like Ana María, I would definitely choose the latter but would skip the Morería dinner.

Another wish to you for a wonderful Christmas trip!

Kenderina: Thanx for your compliment: In addition to my wife I also had a Spanish Mother-in-Law living with us for about 25-years. She passed away about 10-years ago.

Ana Maria: One Sunday we were in our Madrid Piso on D. Ramon de la Cruz and were visited by a couple: Carmen y Oscar. My Suegra was a high fashion Modista with Clients such as the Duquesta de Alba and Carmen. No music or instruments, the ladies began dando palmas. It really surprised me that 4-ladies could create such happy sounds just with varying pitches of their hand claps. That's Spanish Soul Music

2008 is a even numbered year so in September to early October Sevilla's Bienal de Flamenco will happen.

Zaragoza will be hosting an Expo from May 15th for 3-months. There will certainly be entertainment - I don't know if it will just be Jotas Aragonesas or if there will be Flamenco performances. It's not that far from Madrid so it might be worthwhile looking into it.

Wow Ned that was something. Solo de palmas! I would love to have traveled with your family that's for sure. Sounds like you saw alot of great things.

Just wondering since you especially love JOTAS do you dance them to stay in shape? ( ) I would need the paramedics if I tried!

Irego be sure to note that the guest or featured artists perform at specific times.

take care

I lived more than a year in Madrid's barrio de Salamanca. One doesn't develop intimate relationships with the indigenous population in a short tourist stop.

Me too, with an Oxygen bottle. You don't have to do a fast stepping, exuberant dance routine. It's like the Paso Doblé; find a recording of la Jota de la Dolores (sung version) and dance along with it.

When my wife and her First cousin (Prima hermana) who came to visit us in Phila. get together, I put on a Jotas for dancing record and away they go ... I say Jotas for dancing because most have orchestral arrangements and some have song versions. la Jota de la Dolores, for example, has all three.

Si vas a Calatayud, preguntá por la Dolores.

Calatayud is a Renfe Station-stop on the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona line. As might be expected, Students used to shout from windows of trains for la Dolores. They may still do that from older trains but newer, high speed trains don't have windows that can be opened. Another victim of technology ...

Ned we need to show whay we are say there would be a need for paramedics & oxygen.
The Jota is a great alternative to jogging and or aerobics...in fact I just can't resist just one last you tube video, (I am going to have to change my name here to you tube girls or something like that) Although this is a Flamenco thread, Ned is talking about this dance which is called Jota.

Ned could this be you doing the knee drops in this one ?

Hi all! Returned from Spain yesterday. Had a wonderful time.

A bit of disappointing news regarding the long awaited, much anticipated flamenco performance...we didn't get to go!

I had made reservations at Corral de la Moreria, through our hotel (Villa Real), 3 months in advance. Despite having the confirming emails from the hotel, corral claimed to have no record of our reservation and were fully booked.

Oh well, live and learn! Wish I had more to report in this regard, but I do thank all of you for your helpful input.
