Five hour layover
 

Is it possible to do anything with a 4 hour and 45 minute layover in Dublin? On our way home we are flying from Nice on AerLingus to Dublin. Then we have the layover before flying on to the US. Any suggestions will be helpful.
Also...at the beginning of our trip, we are flying from JFK to Dublin then on to Rome. Will we have to claim our luggage in Dublin or will they check it all the way through to Rome?

I don't think you could make it into Dublin and really see anything with that amount of time. You've got more than an hour of time in travel alone and you need to be back at the airport with a couple of hours to spare. You could say you took a bus into and out of Dublin, but you probably wouldn't have much more than an hour on the ground. Not worth it IMO.

As I remember, making your first stop in the EU, you go through customs and imigration. In the States, you recalim your bags and then immediately put them back the belt afetr you go through customs. I can't remember (I've had so few connecting flights within the EU) if that is the case there.

The time of 4 hrs and 45 minutes is just the right amount of time to settle down to the airport pub and order a pint of Guinness or two.

Guinness is best in Dublin, so don't miss the chance.

Spend a look around the airport for some of the Irish sweaters. Like the Guinness, they're very great.

4 hr 45 mins is touch down to take off. It is not arrivals hall to departure hall.

So you really don't have time to go/do much except relax and enjoy a pint, shop, eat, read. Don't even consider going into Dublin.

You probably will haveto claim your bags in Dublin. I know that we had to a Gatwick, prior to flying INTO Ireland, back in 2000, but DIDN'T going back through, on our way to the US, so Bill's probably right about the FIRST EU stop.

No nothing in that timeframe Go chill out in the Pub or have a meal. Airline food to me is still awful and I eat before I fly.
