Fiumicino Train to roma
We are spending a week in Rome, leaving on Easter morning (Sun 31). We need to be at the airport no later than 6:00a.m. Every guidebook I've read lists the Fiumicino Train leaving from Stazione Centrale starting only at 7:00 a.m. It's hard to believe they wouldn't have an earlier train, since our flight leaves at 8:00 a.m., and you need to be there two hours early. Any help with this? Will take a cab if absolutely needed, but hate to spend that much. Is there an earlier bus, and if so, where does it leave from? Any help is appreciated.

I believe there is a train leaving Termini at 4:51 a.m. that will get you to the airport at 5:48 a.m.

We are flying home from Rome on Good Friday. We also did not find an earlier train so we arranged for a private pickup. It will cost us about $50 Euros. I will double check for the earlier train mentioned.

Hello Anna,

On Easter Monday the earliest train which Nutella mentioned, departing Roma Termini at 04.51, actually arrives FCO at 06.08.
N.B. This is NOT a DIRECT train, but involves a change of train at ROMA OSTIENSE.

If you choose to catch this train, you can catch it at Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense or Trastevere, any of which may be more convenient than Termini depending on where you are staying.

Departure times are:-
05.06 TIBURTINA
05.15 TUSCOLANA
05.21 OSTIENSE
05.25 TRASTEVERE
06.08 arrives FCO

There is also a night bus leaving TIBURTINA Station at 03.45.

Let me know if I can be of more help ...

Steve

Thanks for the correction, Steve! And sorry for the mistake! I was close : )

Hi Steve. I do have a question for you. When we are in Rome we will be staying near the Piazza Farnese.
Would there be any advantage to take the train beyond the Termini to one of the other stops? We are coming in from Naples.
And in reverse, to the airport, since we will be on that side of the city, would you recommend let another station instead of Termini for our departure to FCO?
GAC Mar 19th, 2002 08:19 AM

Sherry: there is a local train every 30 minutes from Roma Termini to Roma Trastevere. Trip is 15 minutes. Take this connection when ARRIVING from Napoli. Purchase your ticket to Roma Trastevere, so you will be "legal" on the short connecting segment.
LEAVING ROME from your hotel near Piazza Farnese, the closest rail station is Roma Trastevere. Take a taxi to the Trastevere station, and then the local train to Fiumicino, as noted above.

Thanks, GAC. I know you gave me information before on the logistics of taking a train beyond the Termini. I just don't think I asked you if it was practical to do so to and from the Piazza Farnese area. And now I know.
I am still going to try to buy the ticket with a through all the way to Trastevere at one time from Naples.
And if not, I will get it at Termini when we arrive.
So far, my husband hasn't asked how, where or why. And since I am planning all of these things I have never done before, I don't think I will tell him! I will just drag him along and tell him this is the way it has to be.
I appreciate your help.

You can always get off the train at Termini and take a taxi to Piazza Farnese (or take the no. 64 bus to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, get off near Sant'Andrea della Valle, and WALK to the hotel).

Sherry Mar 19th, 2002 10:45 AM

I really do not mind walking, but this will be at the end of our 15 day trip and I cannot imagine what we may have accumulated along the way.
I have only been once to Rome and I am not really that familiar with the streets. We don't take a lot of luggage, but I don't want to drag it from Termini to the hotel, which looks to be several blocks by my map.

GAC Mar 19th, 2002 11:06 AM

I would get off at Termini and take a taxi! That's my honest opinion. Good luck.

Thanks Steve and all the rest....sounds like the best bet is the Trastevere Station since we are staying in Trastevere, and we can get up early and get over there for the 5ish train...grazie!!
