Fiumicino Hotels

Any recommendations for hotels in Fiumicino for a last night stay before early AM flight.
Most of the threads regarding Rome airport hotels are very old. Hoping for an update. I would prefer not to stay at the Hilton since you can no longer walk to US airline check-in. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There is a shuttle that will take you there though. I took it. The Hilton is overpriced for what you get.

Yes, I know. I have taken it several times and it was awful each time. Lots of pushing and shoving. Something I'd rather avoid, plus I agree, the hotel is very overpriced for what you get.

We stayed at a hotel on Isola Sacra. ( maybe that name?) that had very modern rooms, a nice pool, a decent restaurant and a shuttle to the airport.

We've had bad luck with some hotel shuttles. They're almost never free, and they're often not available when you need them. The last hotel I stayed in had a decent shuttle, but I can't remember the name of the hotel. It was one of the US chains. Most of the airport hotels are in the vast wasteland of rental car agencies and off-site parking lots that surrounds the airport. I really prefer, if possible, to spend the night in central Rome, where there is a good choice of restaurants and something to see and do in the evening.

Honestly, we also spent the last night in Rome because we wanted more to do than sit in an airport hotel. We prearranged to have a taxi pick us up super early at out hotel. I did this before we left Canada and used a service recommended here( cant remember name) We needed a taxi van because of equipment we were carrying. We don't speak Italian so it was great just to reconfirm all details with our hotels' reception staff, who then confirmed with the taxi company the day before we needed to leave Rome. It went off without a hitch.

If you're not already staying in Rome before flying out and want to spend the last night enjoying Rome check into the Holiday Inn Parco dei Medici. It's right at the GRA. We stayed there and they have a shuttle into the city and a shuttle to the airport.

Reading this thread with great interest, as we are trying to decide whether to stay near FCO our last night in Italy. We do not stay in Rome at any time, and are coming from VCE, FLR, and Orvieto stays. Italian friends will be showing us around Umbria our last couple of days of the trip, and will probably deliver us to our Rome/FCO hotel. Our flight is around 9am to EWR the next morning. What do fodorites think? Should we stay by the airport or in Rome? I need to look at the Holiday Inn Parco dei Medici mentioned above. (what is GRA?)

This is a couple of years old so you will need to check everything is still accurate. Scroll down to the map to see where they are all located. Scroll past that for descriptions and interior pictures of each.

kybourbon, thank you for that link! I am thinking that we will probably be tired, arriving at the hotel late (maybe after a nice dinner with Italian friends) and will just want to sleep and then get up and fly next day.

Thinking I should just bite the bullet and book the airport Hilton.....

We actually stayed in Fiumicino on the first day of our Italy trip because we went to Ostia Antica. 5 minutes from the hotel. If you need a nice hotel, we stayed at the http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Revi...ome_Lazio.html
It was really pretty and I wished we had stayed longer to enjoy the pool in summer.

9 am is an early flight so unless you get a 6 am cab stay closer to airport. I know we arrived early for our last Munich flight but the Delta agents never opened till seven. It gave us enough time but will remember that next early flight. I had no problem with the Hilton shuttle but only had a small suitcase.

>>>(what is GRA?)<<<

That is the ring road around Rome.

Thanks everyone. Aha... thanks kybourbon. Why didn't I think of that!?

Ackislander May 16th, 2014 02:34 PM

It was the Hotel Isola Sacra where we stayed, identified by kybourbon's helpful link. It was a great choice for us as we were sick as dogs at the end of our trip, and sitting around the pool and sleeping was all we could manage, despite plans to go to Ostia Antica. AC was still fully on in mid-October, something you can't always count on. The neighborhood was not strollable. It was like that road with all the hotels just outside Orlando International.

The staff were very helpful, and since our ailments were not intestinal, we appreciated having a decent place to eat on site. The shuttle was reliable.

We booked through Venere.
