Fishing in Scotland

My husband wants to fish on our trip to Scotland. I am still in the earliest stages of planning so I can develop our itinerary around wherever the best place to fish is. Any other info or thoughts on this topic would be really appreciated. (As you might guess I don't fish!)
Thanks

Can't tell you a lot but the River Tay is great for salmon fishing. There are guides in the area.

I don't fish, but I've been looking at the Scottish Tourist Board's website http://www.holiday.scotland.net/ and it has a lot of specific information about fishing, including links to other Scottish fishing sites. From the home page, click on Outdoor Activities and you'll see the link to fishing. Hope this helps.

What type of fishing does he do?The best wild trout fishing is in the Uists (Western Isles) but it means over 5 hours on a boat from Oban or fly Glasgow to Benbecula (then short bus ride)or Barra(then ferry). However it's natural, unstocked, no permits needed for trout, beautiful little lochans - the way it should be.I suppose its good because it's remote.(western isles website is www.hebrides.com Best site for whole of Scotland is http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/scotland.htm)
The "best" beats on the Tay (salmon)cost £1000 per DAY to fish, though you can have a great day (& more fish) in other parts of the same river very cheaply.
He will need to be able to get info on where to get permits, whether they are needed etc, this can be time consuming & frustrating during a trip, so you are certainly doing the right thing trawling for information before you go.
Fishing is the biggest participant sport in the UK, fishermen are helpful, you'll get your answers if you keep asking.

I have a good web address on this bookmarked at home which I will pass on; but it would help to know what sort of fishing your husband likes. The options are wide; and range from hanging a rod off Mallaig pier to the sort of thing Frank was talking about on one of the stunning salmon rivers- the Tay, the Spey or the Tweed.

My brother is a keen fisherman and I can get details easily. It would also help to know where you're going to be, becuase the rules vary from river to river. (Who said anything was easy?)

Is your husband bringing kit or do you need to hire?

I can see I need to do some more homework about types of fishing and what he has in mind. Thanks for pointing me off in the right direction. I'll be back!!!
