Firsthand experience sought on available services for shipping luggage hotel-to-hotel from one european city to another

We are planning a December 2008 trip to Munich/Salzburg/Vienna/Prague during which we will be travelling by train between cities. Along the way, we plan to attend some events that require formal duds. In the interest of keeping the size of our luggage manageable for train travel, we would like to ship a large suitcase containing the extra clothing from hotel-to-hotel by a forwarding service that assures expedited (i.e., one or two day)service. Has anyone out there used (or knows the particulars of) such a service. Many thanks as always. Gradyghost

Just be prepared to pay a fortune for overnight delivery.

Thanks for the responses. You might imagine that I know about the commercial delivery services. I also know about the projected costs. I was hoping for firsthand experience. Gradyghost

I was just wondering if there is an "Elite and Arrogant" department at Fodors Forum.

Yes, it's right next door to the 'Critical and Judgemental' department. :-d

Love it travelnut!

I've investigated but not personally used LuggageForward. I've heard good reviews. There was a N.Y. Times article on them a while back you could probably pull up.

I asked them for a quote one time on shipping luggage from the U.S. to Paris and it priced out at about $400. (They charge by weight.)So we just packed lighter and took carryons.

I think DHL would be your best bet and just use them to ship the fancy duds. And pack extra cash in case they don't arrive in time.

Thanks to Linda and Travelnut.

I guess I never realized that this board excluded inquiries, however legitimate, that are deemed by a few as outside certain self-imposed economic constraints. You do it your way, Hopscotch, and I'll continue on my own path.

I'll adopt your suggestions, Linda. Thanks. Gradyghost

FWIW - Trenitalia advertises DHL's shipping service on their web site. 5E for in Italy and 40E between Austria/Germany/France/Italy. Also service to other countries served by international train service.

I posted all the luggage services on a thread last year. I'll see if I can locate it.

If you enter shipping luggage in the search function, you will find several threads, some with firsthand experience including the one I linked.

I cannot even tell if the question was considered Elite or Arrogant, or a particular answer.

Best wishes,

Rex
