First visit to Prauge
 

I am planning my first visit to Prauge very soon. It will be the first week of May. Can some one recommend a clean, budget hotel close to city centre. Also what is the best way to reach the city centre from the airport?

Not really, but maybe if you fly over in business class instead of first class as you stated on the sleeping on the plane thread you could get a higher priced hotel? ;;)

On your other thread you stated that you fly first class and now you're asking about a budget hotel. Very interesting particularly from a "newbie". Mike

If you are looking for a budget hotel in Prague in an ideal location you should consider the Hotel Kampa Garden. I spent seven nights there about 4.5 months ago. First, I can't think of an area in Prague that I would rather stay than Kampa Island, the hotel's location. Kampa Island begins right under the Charles Bridge. Thus it is right near the old town and has wonderful views. The island is quiet and peaceful, something that you will appreciate after the crowds of the day in the old city. The Island has a very nice park and a lovely square with a number of good places to eat for all budgets. I thought that the Restaurant 14 Kampa was outstanding in all respects and well priced (get the strudel for desert, you won't be sorry). The hotel is in a building that had been a school and was completely refurbished this year to open as a hotel. It is located on the far corner of the square about 100 yards from the bridge. The rooms in the rear have a nice view of the park and the top rooms give you a view to the castle and a bridge tower. Unfortunately, the front rooms only have a view of the back of the Estonian Embassy except for room 110 which meets all ADA standards for disabilities and has a nice view to the river. The hotel is completely non smoking. Desk staff is friendly, but young and still learning. Their English varies from passing to pretty good. Rooms are new, spotless and well equipped as are the ensuite baths. Breakfast is OK but not memorable. An all you want to eat buffet of hot and cold items e.g., hard boiled eggs, little hot dog like things (pretty tasty) cereal, yogurt, beverages, commercial pastry and bars etc. Last I checked, the high season rate was about 2500 crowns for a double. When I was there that worked out to a bit over $90.
