First Trip to London
Hello, I am taking a business trip to England in July. I am taking my wife and 2 year old daughter. I will be doing a tradeshow in Farnborough, while they are going to vacation. I was looking for advice on a good hotel or even which area I should be looking at staying. I need for them to be able to sightsee during the day, and one where I can get to a train to head to Farnborough. Also, are there any tour operators that I should be looking at for them? My wife would love to head to Paris for a day and Germany for a couple of days. Thanks for any help that you can give.

Are you doing the Farnborough airshow in July? If so, accommodation close to show gets booked up way in advance but there are plenty of other areas to stay with easy access to the show.
Central London is most probably the easiest with Farnborough being 35 minutes away by train from Waterloo Station (3 trains an hour at peak times). Your wife would also be able to take the Eurostar from there to Paris.

According to the information at http://www.farnborough.com/ trains to Farnborough leave from London Waterloo Mainline Station, the journey takes about 35 minutes.
If you decide to stay near Waterloo the Marriott County Hall comes highly recommended. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station and the Waterloo Underground. Some of the rooms will have wonderful views of the Thames and of Parliament.
If your wife wants to take a daytrip to Paris she can take the Eurostar from Waterloo International and be in Paris in < 3 hours.
You can check eurostar.com for schedules and ticket prices. Her taking an early morning train and returning on a late train would allow the maximum time to sightsee in Paris. Of course she'd also have to spend nearly 3 hours on the train for the return trip; it would make for a long day with a two year old companion.
I can't offer any information about a possible trip to Germany, but perhaps my topping your message will catch the attention of someone who can help you.
.
I would inquire how many days you've scheduled for this first time to London trip? There is so much to see in London itself.
There are also some day trips, which require minimal train time and no advanced reservations , which would allow your wife to sightsee near London... Windsor Castle and Hampton Court are two examples.

Thank you both for the assistance. It is for the air show in July, and you are right the hotels around are booked. We will be there for 9 days, hopefully enough time to see London and a few other places for them (I will have only 2 non-working days). Any other options recommended options in Central London? Work is paying for this and the Marriott would be out of the price range. Thanks again..

If you can't swing the Marriott, then look into County Hall Travel Inn. it is in the same bldg as the Marriott and is dirt cheap by London Standards. The rooms are modern sort of Holiday Inn Express type, but the location cannot be beat for you wife/kids, transport options, and walking distance to Waterloo international for the Eurostar to Paris.
