In case you're not familiar with another great site for lodging which also features travellers' reviews and helpful filters, I'll pass it along: venere.com

This site has a map link which lets you see where the accommodation is located.

For Capri:

For Rome:

For Venice:

Pompeii is definitely worth a visit. We did it as a day trip from Rome but since you'll be heading south anyway, I don't think that makes any sense. At the end of your trip, you might consider spending the last night in Naples or Sorrento, arriving early in the day so you could take a trip to Pompeii and possibly to the Naples Archeological Museum where a lot of the finer stuff from Pompeii is displayed to keep them safe from the elements. That would have the added advantage of making sure you get to the mainland a day early for your flight, which is what many here recommend so as to minimize the risk you can't cross on the day your flight leaves due to either a strike or bad weather on the seas. In other words, if you hope to leave Capri and fly out of Naples on the same day, that entails some risk of missing your flight.

I'm not sure I'd be looking for a side trip from Venice. Some folks go out to the nearby islands where the glass factories are. But those trips get mixed reviews here.

Jeannie,

Really, you don't need to break up your time in Venice or Rome with day trips out. Not on a first visit with so few days! There is so much to see and do in both cities.

If you want to visit other islands while in Venice, I would recommend Burano and Torcello over Murano.

Buon viaggio!
