Vienna surprised me for being so beautiful, which is not a word I associate with Milano, as much as I enjoy many things in Milan.
There is a fascinating BBC program about Vienna on youtube, narrated by a prof. from Columbia U. in NYC

Each has their own take and Vienna has always kind of bored me - oh it is a grandiose city with influences from all parts of the former Austro-Hungarian Emppire which it was the capital of - my Czech grandma was born in Vienna and there are still many various ethnic groups there
but the city always came across as kind of cool - aloof - too proper as I find Austrians often too - and I got a jaywalking ticket on a street with no cars in sight!
Some nice sights but Milan and all it warts to me is a much more alive place - Vienna rolls up the sidewalks about 6 pm - Italy hops till late.
I've spent several days in Vienna off and on so know the city and its environs well but have little desire now to go back.
Loved the Prater and the Big Wheel that has been there since the 1800s I think.
