First timer to Dublin
 

I'm heading to Dublin in September and wnat to know what the major hotspots are. I'm interested in sightseeing, shopping and clubbing, so any insights would be much appreciated. <BR> <BR>Thanks to all.

Hi Jules, <BR>Temple Bar in Dublin has a very high concentration of pubs. Please have a pint for me!

If you really want to enjoy Dublin, you will have to add "pubing" to your plans. As simple as that.

Jules, <BR> <BR>One word of warning before listing some tips - there have been several radically motivated attacks in recent weeks so if you are non-white then take extra care. I am not sure if I am being PC in the above statement but I am trying. <BR> <BR>Re what is happening etc be wary of the goireland site recommendations as clubs etc pay to be listed on it. Buy In Dublin magazine or the Irish Times Saturday edition - both have listings of what's on in the city. <BR> <BR>Temple Bar is one of the most popular areas in the city for pubs etc - watch out for pick pockets and very expensive drink (at least 1 punt more than other parts of the country). Nite clubs that are popular include Lilles, the Kitchen, the POD etc. (See IN Dublin) <BR> <BR>Shopping - Grafton Street is the most popular and expensive shopping street in the city, anything southside of the river is slightly more expensive than northside, also check out Henry and Mary Street off OConnell Street, Bookshops on and off O'Connell Street include Easons, Chapters (second hand shop down Abbey Street). Try some of the Markets - Blackrock at the weekends or Mother Red Caps (if it is still there - near Christchurch) <BR> <BR>Sightseeing - Trinity College History students run walking tours of the city - there are also pub craw and literature crawl tours of the city complete with Guinness. Oliver, St. John Gogarty was the best bar that we went to in Temple Bar. Downstairs is what seems to be a local crowd, but if you go upstairs there is an incredible Irish band. It gets pretty crowded, but it was fun and a great place to meet people.

The one thing I was told to do in regards to sightseeing in Dublin worked very well for us - The Dublin Hop On - Hop Off bus. We picked it up right by Trinity rode around completely, then went back to see the thing's that interested us. You pay one fare and can ride all day long. Have fun!!!
