I wrote once before in this forum but I lost it somehow. I am sure it got lost in the black hole. Anyway, my wife and I are planning to go to Italy in May '06. In searching the web, I came up with this.Fly into Rome (from NY) on a Sunday. Stay at the Albergo del Senato until Wed. Go back to the airport, rent a car and drive down to the Tuscan region. Stay at Sant Uberto Country Inn at Radda in Chianti. Do daily trips around the area for a week. Then drive up to Venice on the following Wed and stay at the Relaise Piazza-San Marco until Sat. and then return the car at the Venice airport catch a flight back to NY. I have made no reservations yet but I see I better do it soon as some of the B&B's in Tuscany are already booked. Would appreciate any feedback. As a PS, I love photography. So, if there are any places that are a must see...let me know.

First of all about finding your previous post. When you come to this page, click on your screen name (thumper) at the upper left hand corner of the screen next to where it says "welcome". In the left hand colum all the posts you made or responded to will (hopefully) appear. I just did that and see you made a post about Marbella on Jan. 28 and the one about Tuscany on July 27.

Now, about your question. The main suggestion I would make is that when you get to Venice, you turn your car in at Piazza Roma. There is no point in paying for several more days of both car rental AND parking. Take a boat to the airport when you leave. You'd have to take one to get your car anyway.

I'd also consider picking up your car at Termini rather than go out to the airport, simply because it is likely to be a cheaper rate (not picking up at an airport) and it really is pretty easy driving OUT of the city from there -- they will give you good and easy directions.

I assume Venice is surrounded by water ergo, the boat comment. BTW, I know zippo Italian. Piazza Roma is what???

Venice is surrounded by water. There's a causeway cars and trains use to get from the mainland to the islands. Piazzale Roma is at the end of the causeway in Venice, the end of the line for cars. From that point you must travel on foot or by boat.

I agree that you should turn in the car when you arrive in Venice.

No rudeness intended whatsoever, but you really should start a new posting (or more than one) with a message header that indicates the subject of your question(s).

Imagine going to the library, and among all the other books, there are countless volumes that say "This is the first book by this author", on the spine.

And you have to pick it up and open it up to see what it actually contains.

The fact that you are new here is entirely irrelevant to the subjet matter of your question(s). You can choose to elaborate on that, in the body of your question if you wish, but a vast number of questions here are written by (relative) first-timers.
