Thanks, maitai, Karen & danon. I'll follow up. You're the best.

I appreciate knowing the names of the train depots to use, and all the other details.

Maitai, I don't care what it costs, I won't be catching any train before 7am! We are night people. Again, thanks for the Spain Select rec.

kja Aug 30th, 2017 03:09 PM

Have you checked google maps for information about train stations? Or rome2rio.com? Or a good guidebook or two?

MoBro Aug 30th, 2017 04:21 PM

Oh, yes, kja, I drive myself crazy with research. Asking here is always more helpful than most resources, for specifics.

I will ask the apartment lease company which train station to use, to double-check.

danon Aug 30th, 2017 05:00 PM

The train station in Madrid (to and from Seville ) is Atocha , but when booking on Renfe ,it is best to enter todas ( "all " in Spanish) for Madrid .

MoBro Aug 30th, 2017 06:11 PM

Thank you, danon!

kja Aug 30th, 2017 06:17 PM

Of course, ALWAYS easier to ask here ... until people run out of patience with questions you can answer on your own and so stop even looking at questions you might have (now or on later trips) that actually would benefit from their experience.

MoBro Aug 31st, 2017 05:15 AM

Gosh, kja, I never thought of that.

Geez, I have so many questions:
What should I do while I'm in Spain?
I have no idea where to go or what to see!
Where should we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner?
What should we wear so we don't look like tourists?
Do they speak English?

I was planning to travel to Madrid, Seville, Cordoba etc. in late September this year, but decided not on advice from friends because of the heat in the South at that time. Late October should be wonderful.

Click on my name, and you will find some excellent advise from Fodorites when I was doing my initial planning.

Also, check out the Maribel guides.

You MUST write a trip report, as I intend to do this same trip early next year.

Regards Ger

MoBro Aug 31st, 2017 05:38 AM

Thanks, Ger. We hate the heat, too, and are hoping for milder weather.

I'll look at your thread.

Will remember to write a trip report.

Do look at Spain Select if you're interested in apartments. The two we reserved look gorgeous.

danon Aug 31st, 2017 06:02 AM

We first rented from SS ten years ago...they were experiencing some growing problems but still tried very hard .
The last time I used their services (two years ago ) , a friend and I stayed in a great 2b/2bath apt . in my favorite area of Madrid ( Salamanca ).
Everything was top notch.

MoBro Aug 31st, 2017 06:09 AM

Thanks again, danon.
SS's service via e-mail has been great.
Every apartment they sent for me to consider, was beautiful. And reasonably priced.
We look forward to staying in the two we picked out.

For kja, finding Spain Select is a very good example how fodorites are the best source of specific, curated travel information.

Without your recommendations, I would have been hesitant to rent apartments. Thanks again.

@maitaitom...where is the picture with the town surrounded by mountains? one of the first on the left in your Barcelona blog. It looks beautiful!

kja Aug 31st, 2017 03:50 PM

It seeems there has been a, uh, failure of communication. Of course you can get great information on Fodor’s – I have gotten some great specific travel information here, and I’ve tried to give it, too. In fact, I’ve tried to give you specific travel information several times on this very thread. My comment was in response to your request for detailed train depot information – something that is so easily available on the web or in any guidebook that I thought you might consider looking that information up yourself, rather than ask one of us to do it for you. I see a LOT of questions here on Fodor’s, and I also see when posters start asking the kinds of questions that result in a marked drop in responses. But ask whatever you want.

Oh gosh, I’m realizing just how badly my last post could be misinterpreted! I live in a world where the phrase, “a failure of communication” has become an ice-breaker of sorts, something to prompt laughter. But I suspect there are parts of the world where it’s links to Cool Hand Luke still evokes the very dark tones that a similar phrase had in that movie. Honestly, MoBro, I’m just trying to be helpful here. Please give me the benefit of the doubt.

@ rivermama: Montserrat is magnificent, but it isn't really a town -- its a monastery, well worth visiting, IMO, and depending on your interests, worthy of an overnight stay (there is one hotel there).

kja, you said, "My comment was in response to your request for detailed train depot information – something that is so easily available on the web or in any guidebook that I thought you might consider looking that information up yourself, rather than ask one of us to do it for you."

I did not request "detailed train depot information".

kja Sep 1st, 2017 03:30 PM

My misunderstanding. When you wrote, "I appreciate knowing the names of the train depots to use, and all the other details," I thought I'd read "I<b><u>'d</b></u> appreciate knowing the names of the train depots to use, and all the other details" -- as in a request for that information.

MoBro Sep 1st, 2017 04:09 PM

I guess that's an apology for misunderstanding, kja.

I meant that I appreciated the information danon had graciously already provided: the names of the train depots.

If you would read the thread, you will see her info preceded me saying I appreciate it. That's how it works. I was thanking her.

Really, you don't need to hang around and nit pick.

For everyone else, I looked at trains from Seville to Madrid. They run about every hour. So that's great. I think the fare now is 40EU apiece. Not bad. Maybe we can wait till we are in Sevilla and have a feel for how early we want to leave according to weather and what we've seen (Not early early, though.)

Unless someone knows if the trains will get booked up, or run much higher than 40?
I hope Kia will allow me the question. When I get back to it, I can email Loco2.
