First Time to Europe.

Hi Y'all. I am going to Europe this spring and I need advice which nation to visit. I will have 3 weeks to visit. Which nation should I visit. So far I am looking at Portugal, Croatia and Greece. I prefer somewhere easier on the wallet.

With nothing to go on except "cheap" all any of us can do is tell you what we like, not what you may like. So, don't be lazy now, give us something to go on. What do you like to do, what do you like to eat, mountains or islands, WHAT?

Beaches, Museums, Art. I guess I should have been more specific. I am headed out March 28

Welcome, travisjackson2568. Fly into Athens and out of Lisbon. That will give you plenty of time to enjoy both places. Maybe give Athens and Islands a bit more time. Save Croatia for another time.

Albania has beautiful beaches, interesting museums, and it's not expensive!

Look for progol's TR that includes Croatia. It may call out to you more. I still vote for countries.

All else being equal, it is cheaper to fly to Portugal of the three places you mentioned, so you might want to start there. It will be a magnificent experience.

Been to Portugal and Greece, both are fantastic, and you can't go wrong with either.

Personally, I prefer the beaches in Greece, but the museums in Portugal (Lisbon has a ton).

Three weeks traveling in only Portugal, might be too much, I think. I stayed two months in Portugal with some family and had a great time, but as far as "touristy" stuff, felt I saw most of what I wanted to see in the whole country in less than two weeks.

Three weeks in Greece is easy, since it is much bigger (there are so many islands, plus you can go to Albania next door, Turkey, etc). I would do two weeks in Greece and 1 in Portugal, if it were me.

I have no opinion in general on Greece vs Portugal, but I do know that Portugal, like Greece, has islands (specifically Madeira) and a neighboring country (Spain), so if you think three weeks in mainland Portugal is too much, you can always branch out from there.

I envy you! 54 years living in Portugal, and I still have a lot to see and do!

Portugal includes the Azores which, so far, have taken me 2 weeks and I've only seen fewer than half the islands. I've visited the two southern areas on the mainland, Lisbon and Porto over another 3 weeks so I think I have another 4 to 5 weeks to spend there.

Is it cheap? Well travel soaks up money but the train system is cheap. There are cheap hotels and hostels. Food is good but watch out for stuff stuck on your table at the start of the meal. It comes on the bill. Wine is very good value, avoid any international brands you know. Eat like the locals in bars and restaurants 2 streets back from tourist areas.
