First time through CGD - enroute to Edinburgh
 

Hey all,
Traveling for the first time in quite a while - and first time through Paris.
I have heard that CDG can be a nightmare to navigate, and although I think I may have the easy end of it, I just want to see if I have it right.

AF69 from LAX 2 to CDG 2E
AF5052 from CDG 2E to EDI

Layover is only 1hr 20min

I understand that my checked baggage will be transferred from AF69 to AF5052 - or do I need to claim it?
Since I appear to not to leave 2E for my connecting flight, will I be going through security/customs etc?

Your bags should be transferred if you have them checked through.

You will not pass customs, but you may well go through security. I hr 20 is ample time. We regularly do 2E to 2F in just under an hour.

You will arrive on a lower level and take an escalator or lift to the upper level.

Sometimes the signposting seems to disappear ( it IS France, after all; the place I have seen on a roundabout a sign one way saying "toutes directions" and the other way saying "autres directions"), but it's actually pretty logical.

but frankly, I think that's pretty confusing. Just follow the signs.

If your baggage tags say EDI, you will not see them again until you arrive at your final destination.

Just look on the screen and go to your next gate. 1h20 is plenty of time in the same terminal.

Because the flight from CDG to EDI has 4 numbers, it will proabably be on a "partner" airline. Many of these require you to take a bus from checkin to a parking spot out on the ramp. Nothing wrong with any of this, but who needs surprises after flying all the way from LA!

EDI is a nice small airport where it is easy to go through immigration, esp for non EU passengers, who are not that numerous. Some of the staff are said to speak English, but I can't vouch for it. :-) Alba gu bragh!

Be sure you have your toothbrush and some clean undies in your carry-on in case your bags do not make it to Edinburgh at the same time you do. The luggage office at the Edinburgh airport is very helpful (I suspect they get lots of practice).

Don't be surprised if that bus ride seems to last forever and ends up a stone's throw from where you boarded the bus.
