First time Switzerland

we are flying into Milan March 7. We have 7 days to see Switzerland. It’s been on my bucketlist. I was thinking the train to Zermatt gor three days and then Luzern? I’m not sure. We are not skiing and wsnt to experience the beauty of the country. Any recommendations appreciated

Will you fly home from MXP too?
According to arrival and departure times of your flights, it may be easier to do the loop the one or the other way round (by public transport).

Trains are great - if traveling much check out Swiss Travel Pass or Half-Fare Card - www.sbb.ch - sites on trains -www/budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. Can buy those passes at any train station.

I'd suggest going to the Interlaken area and the Jungfrau Region which IMO has more varied things to see and do than Zermatt where it's only the high alps - seeing Matterhorn is great but the Jungfrau Region also has neat boat rides on each lake book ending Interlaken and cuter mountain villages like Wengen than Zermatt area where it is mainly having to stay in Zermatt - kind of a busy town. Wengen is car-less and can only get there by train. Lots of lifts everywhere and fits better into a Milan-Zurich itinerary as Zermatt is a big detour.

Lucerne can make a nice 2-3 day stay - lake boats again are neat as is Lucerne itself - do a day trip to Bern one of Switzerland's nicest cities.

Day 3 of our fall trip report included a few days in Switzerland. It involved a lot of walking, three trains, seven cable cars (three up and four down), two funiculars (up and down) and a bus. The weather was near perfect, which is essential to getting significant enjoyment out of the mountains. But it will give you an idea of the Jungfrau region, using Wengen as our base. Simply one of our more memorable days anywhere.

I'm with PalenQ. We have been to Zermatt and Luzern. Neither compare to Eiger region of Switzerland. We stayed in Grindelwald and explored the region from there utilizing gondolas, trams, trains, etc. Everywhere you turn is a picture postcard. Take train to Jungfraujoch. Absolutely beautiful and will tick all of your boxes!
