First time in paris
 

My wife and I are thinking about going to paris at the end of march for our 10th anniv. Two hotels that I am trying to decide between are Hotel Brittanique and the Artus Hotel. Any advice on which one is better,or in a nicer area from past experience (or something better? ) We want something in a part that is more "parisian neighborhood" with coffee shops,cafes,pubs etc, rather than touristy. John, there are TONS of hotels that would fit your description in Paris. There is a great airfare sale going on right now and if you choose carefully, you may never have a chance to go for less than you can get it done for right now. So stop THINKING and start doing something about it! :o)

Hello John, We have a trip booked for our 10th anniversary the end of Feb. I have a lunch at Jules Verne (top of the E. Tower) and for the evening, a ballet at Opera Garnier with champagne afterwards planned. Also have a dinner reservation at Chez Julien one night, per Fodors forum, a very romantic restaurant. We have been to Paris several times and always cannot wait to go back. So glad our anniversary is during the off season so I can catch all the bargains. We are staying at Hotel Residence Monge in one of the rooms overlooking the garden with a tub for 90euro per night. Have stayed here before and like the location. Rooms are small but nice. John,<BR><BR>If you want something with a &quot;real&quot; Parisian neighborhood feel, allow me to reccomend the Grande Hotel Leveque on Rue Cler.<BR><BR>Rue Cler is a very short street, perhaps three city blocks but with a real down home local neighborhood feel. <BR><BR>In the early evening from the hotel room window you can see the locals stop at the bakery, the meat market the fromagerie and the wine store to pick up the evening meal. <BR><BR>There are a couple of brasseries, a meat market, wine store, cheese store, general store, flower store and some carts with goodies for sale in the street. A typical local neighborhood.<BR><BR>The rooms are clean, nice bath ensuite and the staff are very friendly. A nice ** hotel in a great location about 3 blocks from Invalides and about 6 blocks from the Eifel Tower.<BR><BR>Prices are reasonable. One point, the street merchants open early so you may want a back room.<BR><BR>US

Another proven hotel in the Rue Cler area is the Hotel Derby Eiffel on Rue Duquesne(spell) it is but a short three blocks from the head of Rue Cler and hos no shops or noise to awaken you. I walked to the bakery on Rue Cler each morning for fresh baked goods and stoppped at the supermarket for milk (we had a fridge in the room) <BR>One warning do not forget to set the clock. WE were very tired one night and forgot to set it. We slept until 0900 the next day it was so quite &lt;G&gt;
