This is all wonderful advice and I thank each and everyone for their input.
GreenDragon - I really like your suggested itinerary. This seems to hit everything we are looking for. I am leaning towards Dingle but will need to discuss with the hubster as to what he prefers as well. We understand that we are packing in a lot of sights for a short visit. However - we really don't know when and if we will ever get back to Ireland (first time in Europe and there is much more to see prior to going back for seconds!). We enjoy being active and being on the move (maybe its the NY in us). I am going to print out this thread and do some more research based on the above responses. Again -thanks to everyone. I will let you know what we decide (and will be sure to complete a thorough trip report afterwards!) Kerry |
MY BEST SUGGESTION KERRY -- pack all you want to take -- and then take 1/2 out -- don't take more than 1 big suitcase each if you can -- dragging the luggage all over bout broke me back when I was there - and fitting it all in a car - yikes -- there were 4 of us - but i'd suggest getting the smallest car you can -- driving can be hazerdous - no matter HOW good a driver you are - and make sure to get FULL COVERAGE CDW on the car .... that's a must have I think

Fly into Dublin and out of Shannon. Dublin is a two day city..good to get through your jet lag... West coast of Ireland is fabulous...Kenmare, Dingle, Cliffs of Mohr, Burren...travel light, bring wind and rain gear...we went same time last year and the coast can get very cold...well worth seeing. I loved it and didn't really expect to.

I'd keep Newgrange on your schedule, whatever else you do. I think you're giving Dublin short shrift, but perhaps you plan to come back to Ireland again and want an overview? You should plan to dress in layers, so you can put on or take off enough to be comfortable depending on the weather. Have a great trip!

I agree - one big suitcase each. Remember, with this whirlwind, green blur tour, you will be checking in and out of B&Bs almost every night, and that's a lot of luggage to lug. Usually I recommend against it, but you're both young, and this is a first time.
You will never get all of Ireland in a week, but realizing that is the first step. You'll be back, it's addicting! Keep that in mind as you go... |
I actually said I wasn't sure i'd go back to Dublin -- but I don't think i really got to see it all - it's worth two days -- but the rest of the time - will be west coast - most likely Dingle and Ennis --
I want to go and just relax this vacation - take every day slowly ... and enjoy - i rushed the first 13 day trip - and we saw TONS...but this trip is just to 'be' -- Good luck -- remember one suitcase! lol |
