First time in Denmark. Need recommendations on places

Hello all,

I am planning a trip to Denmark from 20th Dec to 25th Dec. Understand that 24th Dec is a Christmas day, so anyone advise us on what activities can a tourist do on this day as most of the shops are closed?

Also, is the public transport still operational on public holidays?

Christiana, said to be the #2 most visited place in Copenhagen for tourists is sure to always be open - its acclaimed restaurants, cafes and other more nefarious activities, such as the open sale of cannabis on the infamous Pusher Street.

But Christiana is much more - one of the few surviving 60s style communes in Europe I always enjoy walking thru its lanes and see the very eclectic style of home architecture in these home-made abodes.

so if everything else is closed check out Christiana. Or go to a church with the few Danes that still do.

Hi PalenQ,

Thanks for the suggestion.

So Christiana is also open during Christmas? Anyway, the public transport should be still operational in all times of the year right?

Please consider investing in a good guidebook or two! None of us can speak to YOUR interests or know what you do/don't know about how to travel in your chosen destinations. And in comparison to the cost of your trip, the cost of a guidebook or two will be trivial.

Christiania is an area of Copenhagen, so always open. But the restaurants in Christiania might not be since most things close on 24 & 25 December. Museums such as NV Glyptotek are closed 24 & 25 December also. 25 & 26 December are public holidays in Denmark. Tivoli is open for the Christmas season and there are many restaurants within the grounds. I should think Bakken will be too.

Here is some info from the Danish Tourist Office which might help:-
