First Time
I know this a broad question AND I know this is European travel talk...I ask because I know many people in this forum have traveled extensively. My boy and I are planning for next years vacation and have been discussing Asia. However, we have no idea where to start. I'm looking into Bangkok- just because I'm familiar with the "name".
Any suggestions for a beggining city to build an iterinary from?

Bangkok is a great place to visit and it is extremely affordable. There is a well-developed hospitality industry with wonderful places to eat, top-shelf hotels and a wide array of tours to temples, markets and interesting places. I'm sure you can get plenty of advice on the Asia board.

Post on the Asia forum -- you'll get lots of help.

PS Be sure to include Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

My 2c: I'd skip Bangkok & go for Vietnam - its still what Thailand USED to be like! Cheap, affordable & friendly!! Also 2nd the Angkor wat suggestion.
|
CA: By your innocent sounding message, I suggest you get some brochures from reputable companies to start your planning. Oh better yet ("Bangkok sounds familiar to me" education) book a tour and leave the driving and planning to them.
Many places in Asia should not be left to the inexperienced.
Happy travels, hope things work out for mother and son!!

I second the motion to proceed to the Asia Forum. Also I suggest you visit or at least call several Travel Agencies in your area,if available.Ask for an Orient/Asia specialist.A reputable and dependable travel professional will appreciate your taking the effort to seek him/her out.
