First night's dinner in Paris?

Should we go to Le Hangar or Le Pamphlet. Both are within walking distance from our hotel in the Marais. Please advise and thanks!

Hi L,

If you are flying in from the US, your first night will be jet lagged.

We just choose a minor, not particularly noteworthy neighborhood resto for that night.

I totally second Ira's suggestion. Our first night we eat relatively early by Paris standards in a simple place and go to bed early. Next day we are "on time" and ready to really enjoy what we choose to do.

Hi Ira and Gretchen,

We only have three nights before I go to work in Paris and my husband returns to states. Sunday night we're at L'Atelier Joel R. and Sunday Alcazar. Everything I have heard about Hangar is that its a great, reasonable bistro. Would love to walk there, eat early, walk home and crash!

What do you think?

Most restaurants start serving at 7pm in Paris. I hope that is early enough for you.

Hi L,

Then go do it.

We loved Le Pamphlet on our trip last November and have it on our list for a return visit this November. It is lovely inside and the food was excellent along with the service.

If it were me, I would wander by both, peruse the posted menu to see what appeals, peek inside, then decide.

I ate at Le Pamphlet my first night in Paris in March. Loved it. You might need a reservation, so not advisable to just walk in.

Wander by and hope they are open when you want to eat. It might be as late as 7:30PM even. Whether you can get in? They might be booked at 8 and not want to seat anyone before that, etc. Never know.

I don't know about Le Hangar, but Le Pamphlet seats until 11PM. And, the chef has opened Le Petit Pamphlet at 15 rue Saint-Gilles, which also seats until 11PM.

Le Petit Phamphlet is now called Le Carré des Vosges and under a different management. It is still a good rapport qualité-prix in a pleasant enough decor.

Our concierge at Pavillion de la Reine said Le Hangar could take us at 645 pm. I think that may be the best as it is our first night and we'll be beat?
