First night of honeymoon in Amsterdam
 

We're actually going to Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia on our honeymoon, but with the way flights work, we have an overnight in Amsterdam, so we're looking for hotel recommendations. Something romantic but not too expensive (our honeymoon is already costing a fortune!). Also something central would be good as I haven't been to Amsterdam before, so it'd be nice to see a bit of the city if possible. I guess something in the region of €100-€150 for the room for the night would be ideal.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I hope you have a wonderful time on your honeymoon - Africa sounds so exciting.

If you do a search for Amsterdam hotel in the "search this forum" box at the top of the page, you will find many threads on different hotels located in Amsterdam.

You can also visit www.tripadvisor.com which lists many Amsterdam hotels with ratings.

One night in Amsterdam will give you a quick taste of this wonderful city. Since you will be on your honeymoon, may I recommend a visit to the Sex Museum, located on the Damrak (they're open late), which can be educational and fun (and hokey, too). Have a great journey - Peace.

I really enjoyed the Seven Bridges Hotel. It must be the most romantic location in the city because couples were always stopping at this canal intersection to take in the views invariably leading to a spontaneous kiss.

The hotel is quite nice too. No website. The owner is super freindly and speaks perfect English. Call and tell him it's the first night of your honeymoon and I bet he'll give you a nice room there within your budget.

Cailin- Please, please take this advice as a life saver if you have not consulted your doctor and obtained a perscription for drugs against Malaria!
Can't give you any advice about Amsterdam but as I am from Africa, I urge you to protect yourself against a very serious mosquito bite which has NO CURE! The old Malaria is still around but there is a new strain which KILLS.
I know of two people who have died and I don't travel into the bush that much!
Please get a perscription for MALANIL 250mg. The pharmacists will tell you how to take it. Remember, if you get ANY 'flu-like symptoms after your trip, please rush to the nearest hospital and tell them where you have been.Remember, the female mosquito only bites at night and she is the carrier!
Besides that, have the most wonderful time. Mozambique is fab, Botswana is heaven on earth, Zambia will take your breath away!

don't worry tod - we will, of course, be taking malaria tablets! We've both been to malaria-infected areas before and have taken both larium and malarone. We're due to get some vaccinations too so will also organise malaria tablets then.

I don't know of a particularly romantic hotel in AMS, but would suggest a canal ride as something romantic to do.

This hotel has the nicest looking "affordable" rooms I've seen online. Maybe they are accurate portrayals...

Thank you all. We've actually booked The Canal House Hotel. http://www.canalhouse.nl/ It gets great reviews on tripadvisor, so hopefully it'll be good. It's in a nice location anyway. I'll report back when we return!

try the &quot;Port van Cleve.&quot; not very sophisticated but decent and centrally located. it's got a bar &amp; restaurant (the lady that manages the restaurant needs some serious lessons on dealing with customers though). you can walk from Centraal Station in about 15 minutes. just walk south on Damrak St. to Dam Sq., turn right and walk past the Royal Palace and you're there. everything is nearby: churches, historic sites, canal belt, canal boat tours, redlight district, clubs, pubs, restaurants, coffeeshops, etc. have fun &amp; all the best to you and your wife!!!!!!!

Lucky you - Amsterdam and E. Africa in one trip! I agree with tamjam's advice to take a canal cruise. Even though we were tired after a nine hour flight, the nighttime cruise was a relaxing and very romantic introduction to the city.

The Canal House seems to something like the Hotel Ambassade which is what I would have suggested. Both are above your ideal budget.
