First Night in Italy/Florence Dinner

I'll be driving into Italy and staying at the Villa Vedetta. I'll have my 18 yr old daughter and my 15 yr old son. My 18 yr old will be raring to go, as would I.

My 15 yr old, rather, will be disgruntled after the drive and wanting to charge up his playstation PSP. I'm imagining a nice dinner in a lively, visually stimulating setting. I tried looking up Il Ristrovo but I couldn't find a website.

Thank you sea urchin. Ok, what a name. I think you had it, Il Ritrovo. Was that correct. I'm checking out Cinghale now.

Yes, it was very good a year ago. There are alot of recs on the restaurants in Florence. Everyone has a favorite! Try the search box. I thought the Cinghale would be good for the first night with your kids.

Since you will be on the south side of the Arno, I will recommend one of my favorites in that general area: Antico Ristoro dei Cambi on Via Sant Onofrio right off the Vespucci Bridge. Lots of atmosphere, few tourists, excellent food and wine list and not too pricey. They have a web site so you can see the menu.

Just returned from Florence and am the process of posting notes from trip. We had a lovely meal at Il Ritrovo. Address is Via del Pucci 4/A tel 055.281688. It is in the cellar and is lovely. They are closed on Monday. The night we were there, it was only half full but was delicious. I would recommend Trattoria 13 Gobbi Via del Porcellana 9R tel 055.284015. It was more lively and the food was excellent. Either choice, however, will give you a wonderful meal.

I love Hosteria del Bricco on the oltra Arno side. Excellent food and nary a tourist in sight, but English is spoken. http://www.osteriadelbricco.it/

Just doing a little research on possibly taking a trip with my 2 children this summer - we will be travelling alone so I will be doing all the driving myself. How is it working for you travelling alone with 2 kids? Mine are quite a bit younger (10 and 14).

Cinghiale Bianco is much livelier and more stimulating, visually and otherwise, than Il Ritrovo. We ate at both in October and, while the food was good at Il Ritrovo, it is very sedate.

Hi Jul,

I don't think that Il Ritrovo would be a good place to bring a disgruntled 15 year old. Wait until he has become gruntled.

I agree with the suggestion for Cinghale Bianco.
