First Europe Trip

We are planning our first Europe trip visiting Copenhagen, Hamburg, Aalborg, and Goteborg in summer 2006. We will be travelling with a 3 year old kid. Should we travel by rental car, air, or rail? What are the pros and cons? We are kind of leaning towards rental car. If we travel by car, can we get on the ferries from Rodby to Puttgarden and from Frederikshavn to Goteborg with the car? Do we need advance booking for the ferries.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks.

We have been to all of those. Its hard with a car in Copyhagen. Because theres not much parking but if you stayed outside in Tornby you could take the train in. Be sure to stop at Lund and and Lubeack. If you take trains and buses your 3 year old will travel free most of times.

Cars renting is expansive and gas too. Its about 6$ per gallon. Train would be easiest an maybe fly between Goatberg and Hamburge, see the www.whichbudget.com sites for cheap air fairs.

Hi ctang101
Here's some advice.
Repost your question with a new title that mentions your destinations, so it will be more likely to catch the eye of the experts on those locations.
Something along the lines of
Summer Trip to Copenhagen, Hamburg,Aalborg,Goteborg
good luck

Hi ct,

Yes, the ferries take cars.

They also take trains.

Putting Copenhagen in your title will guarentee you an entertaining reply from BettynBarneyRubble.

Yes, parking anywhere in any European capital can be a trial. And most people on this forum will inexplicably though perhaps correctly assume that you want to take the cheapest option. If you ONLY want to see Copenhagen, there's no need for a car. If you want to see Kronborg Castle, Fredricksberg Castle, Esrum Kloster . . . other sights in Saeland, then a car is the easiest. When people say "take the train" I think they overlook things like how to get from the train station to, for example, Kronborg Castle . . . that's a little bit of hike, especially with a 3 year old.

I'd probably drive the whole trip. I love to drive. Make sure the rental car company doesn't ding you for pick up in one city and drop off in another. Some do, some don't.
