First class sleeper Prague - Cracow
 

My husband & I plan to take a first class double sleeper compartment on the train from Prague to Cracow. Could someone please tell me how secure the sleeper compartment is? Do we need to take something for additional security measures? Also how much room is there for luggage in these compartments?

Thanks Ira. I thought of another question. Is there a dining car? And do all trains in Czech Rep., Poland and Hungary have dining cars?

The vast majority of trains in Europe do not have dining cars. The night train from Praha to Krakow does not have one. It leaves at 2118, so you can get something to eat before joining the train. You can check this sort of information on www.bahn.de.

When I went to Prague from Munich I was in a first class sleeper, (the door locked and it was much bigger than the cityline train sleeper) the conductor told me that when we crossed the border someone would knock on the door. Which they did.
I was a little worried about traveling alone. so i gave the conductor 20 dollars and told him no one else should come near my door.
I had no issues and I had a good nights sleep.

I didn't take the sleeper from Prague to Krakow on my recent trip because of the early arrival in Krakow ( spent a day in Olomauc and then took the day train to Krakow next day).

However I did take the night train from Krakow to Budapest and had a very comfortable journey. I had a 1st class single sleeper which had a washbasin and they left a bottle of water and a bread roll for breakfast (they bring you coffee in the morning if you ask). There was no restaurant car. You lock your door and also use the security chain. As there were 2 borders to cross I was awakened twice by passport control. They knock your door and stress quite loudly who they are (they seemed to me to be aware of passengers concerns and were very careful to make sure that you knew there was nothing to fear). They were very polite and courtious. I would have no hesitation using a night train in the future though arriving at 05.00am I would still have to think about!

I forgot to add that there is a small curtained area for your suitcase and you can even hang up your clothes for the next day. There is also room for your washbag.
