Fiorino/the Florentine effect

Discount of 20% for American tourists in Florence in hotel and restaurants.
Sorry, for not translated: this is the news:

Rough translation from Google:

"The Fiorino, the old currency of Florence for over two centuries has been the most widespread in Europe, return current to compensate for the loss of value of the dollar against the euro. The Province of Florence el'Apt launch a unique initiative to commemorate the birth of Fiorino and at the same time renew the "welcome" to American tourists. Thanks to promote "Fiorino / the Florentine effect" American tourists can get a discount in hotels, restaurants and exhibitions of Florence."

What a nice idea, to help us with the price of Euros! How do you find out more about it?

They say they plan to unroll a campaign through the Italian tourist offices in the US.

Caution: It will be in effect starting May 15, 2008, and last until December 31, 2008.

If this was not an April Fools joke, let me know more: how do we get it, etc. We are already booked at Alloro B&B at an agreed-on rate. Are they going to give us il sconto? We will arrive there May 15, the day this supposedly goes into effect.

What good news for Americans! Will this apply only in the city of Florence, or throughout the area?

How do we apply for this discount?

There are now hotels in both Italy and in Paris who will allow American tourists to convert the price of the room from Euro to dollars at a one to one exchange. So instead of 300 Euro for a room, you can pay 300 dollars..

If anyone is interested I will try to find and link...

Definitely interested! We are booked in May and would like more details, this sounds too good to be true.

Harry's Bar in Venice recently announced their own discount to American tourists:

Don't you know that we leave Italy on May 15? I am not even telling DH about this.

Please, would love to know more as we will be there in June. Will wait for that link.

Hi Vicenzo, great news. We used to go to Europe almost every year but this year we are not sure, the high euro is not helping. I hope that Florence finds a way to make it easier for us.
As many Americans, we love Italy ...

So far, I have found this:

The St Regis Grand in Rome will charge American guests at a rate of 1.30 per euro.

www.stregis.com

In Paris the St. James allows Americans to pay at a 1:1 dollar/Euro exchange rate.

We will be in Italy from May 18 to May 31. How do we find out about these discounts and take advantage of them? J
