Finistère Base
 

My wife and I are looking for a base ville or village in the Finistère region of Brittany. We will be there one week in early June and, having a rental car, would make day trips from our base to see more of the region. Any suggestions?

Without a moment's doubt, Pont-Aven. It's gorgeous, convenient to lots of other interesting places, many fine restaurants, galleries. You might get lucky (as we did) and be there for the local festival, La fête de la Belle-Angèle - antique boats, sardine celebration, bagpipes, bombards, crepes, cider, dancing... http://www.belleangele.fr/fetebelleangelepontaven.html

Finistère is a large département so the best/most central base would really depend on what you want to see and do. Any ideas?

We stayed near Pont Aven for a week & found it to be perfect for visiting the sites in the region.

We had visited the area on a prior trip, and didn't find the stuff near Auray to be of interest to us - except for Vannes. So we spent most of our time north of Lorient on our latest trip.
