Finding travel companion
Is there any kind of service or message board to help people find travelling companions. I use my passport every year and my last 2 trips were alone (one to the low countries and one to Italy) They were great, however next year I want to go to Spain. Something about the late hours of eating and walking the streets just seems like it would be more fun with another person ( Meals are the low point when I travel alone ) I'm not looking for a best friend...just someone to share some time in the days and to meet up with at night. Anyone know of somewhere to meet travel partners?

This is a touchy subject on this forum.<BR><BR>but on a positive note, see the thread "Galicia to Bretagne trip"<BR><BR>which I will bring back up to the top for you.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex Bickers<BR>Westerville, Ohio<BR>

If you talk just one fourth as much on your tours as you do on here, I can't imagine anything worse that taking a trip with you. I imagine Larry was talking about someone not so full of himself. I'm not sure of your age, Larry, but I've seen a lot of people on the Lonely Planet site looking for travel companions -- not sure if that's your style.

It amazes me that something as positive as travel has so many negative jerks commenting on it. <BR>However thank you REX

Larry, I know that there have been other threads about this but I can't seem to find them. I did find one called "'Personals' for those who love to travel???' Just do a search for 'personals' and it will pop up. It wasn't the one I was thinking of though.<BR><BR>As an advocate of travelling alone, I'll also mention that this Fodors site has some tips on travelling alone. It's geared toward women but I think there is actually some valuable advice for men in there as well. I'm glad that there's so much info for women travelling alone, but I think the women-specific stuff should be parse out so that men can take advantage of some of the info as well. Good luck.

http://roughguides.atinfopop.com<BR>You might try this travel forum. They have a section on travel partners.

Larry, When will you be in Spain? I will be there in mid may and it would be fun to meet up for a drink. You might also try the Rick Steves site. He has a place to look for travel companions. Let me know if our dates match up and I will get you my regular e-mail address.

<<next year I want to go to Spain>><BR><BR>Doesn't sound like May to me. Or do you mean May 2003?<BR>
|
Rex it amazes me why people are always having a pop at you. You provide decent info, helpful hints and light-hearted banter and yet someone comes along and slags you off. Don't let the bugger grind you down, mate!<BR><BR>Larry I assume all your friends are either married or dont wish to travel to Europe? I think if it were me I'd go with someone I knew (even a little) rather than a stranger but again that may be fun in itself. Good luck.

xxx, hmmmm. Very strange - you just trash someone, and then breeze along as sweet as can be. I bet not too many turn their back on you twice. I detect a certain mean spiritness. Why don't you apologize and try to stop doing that.
|
Thanks for the replies. Yes it is better to go with people you know, but most of my friends do not travel and the ones that do only go to Asia. I did mean 2003...I just got back from Italy 3 weeks ago. I was trying to thank Rex and I did find the thread he moved forward

Listen to Tony Hughes? or listen to xxx?<BR><BR>That's not a very hard decision.<BR>

I work at a company that rents villas. I have been checking out this board for more than a few months now, but never posted.<BR><BR>Why is this a touchy subject? I would have thought that a board like this would be good for people who might like to rent a villa but need more people to go in with them.<BR><BR>It's odd. Don't people who go on tours travel with strangers? Why not make acquaintances over time here and figure out how to travel with some other people?<BR><BR>And rent a villa!<BR><BR>A question also. It seems like I have seen mention of a website called slowtrips.com or something like that and it has reviews of villas to rent. I can't find it. I wonder if I have the name wrong. There is nothing here on this forum under the name slowtrips, but I feel certain I saw it here before.<BR>

<<If you talk just one fourth as much on your tours as you do on here><BR><BR>I imagine somewhat the opposite.<BR><BR>Somone who is more at ease in front of a computer, and may not be all that gregarious at all.<BR>

Larry, although I frequently travel alone, my friend, Linda, and I will be in Spain for 3 weeks in April, however, I don't know the dates yet. If you would like to meet up for dinner or tag along with us for a day or more, you're more than welcome to, however, we don't have an itinerary set yet, but we do plan to begin in Madrid and end in Barcelona. We plan to be changing hotels about every 3-4 days and will be traveling by train.

That's April 2003. My apologies for forgetting to mention that in the prior message.

Larry - I saw your message about a travel companion. You might try rick steves website. He has a board where people post messages for travel companions. Hope that helps.
