Finding Brunello wineries

I'm visiting Tuscany in June, and hope to visit several wineries in/around Montalcino, as Brunello di Montalcino is my absolute favorite wine. Any info on how to find and arrange these visits/tours would be great. I will have a car.

This may not be much help but there is an enoteca in a corner of the castle in Montalcino where you can sample Brunello wine - and a lovely area where you can sit outside at picnic tables and enjoy the weather. My guess is that the people in that enoteca (I think that's the right word) could direct you to nearby wineries. Montalcino is a wonderful town! Also, Montipulicano, not too far away.

Lots of info on this site about the winery and the surrounding area.

On the same road to Castello Banfi is Poggio Antico, and on your way back ,after seeing the St. Antimo abbey, stop at Fattoria Barbi. Both have web sites.

We toured Castello Banfi, and I would recommend it for tasting. They had a nice gift shop w/free tasting. We had lunch there (need a reservation). Three courses paired with 3 wines, the last one a Brunello. The food was just OK, but they kept your wine glass charged. I believe it was 40 Euro per person, and you can sign up for it on their website.

You can sign up for a tour of their winery which is in a separate location. Basically explain the process for winemaking. It was interesting if you know nothing about the process. ((b))

I have been told the best (cheapest)place to buy Brunello is at the Agriculture Store in Montalcino.

mdinsmoor,
Most places require you to call and set up an appointment but be aware that a lot of them do not offer tours.
See http://www.consorziobrunellodimontal...r=0&did=25
for a list of producers. Click on the icon for phone numbers and locations.
