finding a Paris apartment in Sept-Oct
We've become gite-experienced but have not yet rented in Paris. We plan to spend about a week in Paris in (probably) early Oct. Our requirements are 1 bedroom, a decently large bed (like a queen), wi-fi, and not more than one flight of stairs. (We're getting on.) Our wants are a quiet neighborhood with plenty of ordinary shopping, easy access to the metro, a traditional area with charm, and a fairly central location.
Do you have favorite rental agencies? Do you have a specific apartment in mind? What do you think is a good weekly rate (euros or dollars) these days?
Finally, if you have a particular restaurant or lesser-known corner of the city you love, let me know. We like restaurants that are informal, more like a bistro or cafe. We like cemeteries, gardens, surprising neighborhoods. We are not, however, nightowls--strictly creatures of daylight.
Thanks!

If you do a search in this forum just using "Paris apartment" and you will find many suggestions. www.rentparis.com has some of the best rates and reliable 1 bedroom apartments in the Marais.

It totally depends on what sort of budget you have. Some agencies are good and specialize in moderately priced properties. Some specialize in high budget places.
And vrbo/homelidays, etc have places in all price ranges.
So how much are you hoping to pay?

Can't really help with specifics, but we started looking for something similar last April for mid-September. Over the past couple of years, I had bookmarked many apartments that seemed like good possibilities. Most of them were already booked for the time we needed. I finally found something that I'm hoping will work well, but I would advise you to start checking availability for next fall as soon as your dates are firm.

I do think that at this point, you need to have your dates before seaching.
As pointed out above, there are many recommendations on this board, some even from me. I've got a Paris trip report from '09 that describes the apartment we stayed in then. It was a rentparis.com apartment, and before that, we had another of theirs with one full bedroom on rue Pecquay.
The time, we renting from parisvacationapartments.com. I haven't stayed yet, but so far, the reviews are good and the communications are excellent.

I prefer Vacation In Paris.comHave rented from them several times. You get keys before you leave home, so no worrying about having to meet someone to let you in, You pay in US dollars by CC, and no security deposit for the apt. A $150.00 key deposit is included in the price and it is promptly returned when they get the keys back.It is a bit late to be looking for this October though! We are renting their Marais Delight for this November. Have rented it before. It fits you bill perfectly, queen bed, first floor with Courtyard, wifi or DSL connection. and perfect location. Buses to everywhere just outside the door, a metro stop a fewyads away with a taxi stand. many many shops including a arger grocery store across the street. Righ around the corner from Plasce ST Catherine and just a few blocks from Place de Vosges, Bastille is in walking distance as is the Seine, though I hop on aq bus to Bastille.

They also have other very nice-looking apartments.

avalon - you'll love the Marais Delight apartment, having rented 9 apts. in Paris over the past 10 years this one is my favorite. It's so convenient for everything and a nice cozy apartment, across the street is a great butcher shop that sells tasty rotisserie chicken and potatoes, just the thing for a night when you're too tired to go out for dinner. Grocery markets and several wine shops and don't forget pâtisserie...., nothing like popping out early morning for fresh baguettes and croissants.

Great location, ground floor, quiet, secure, yet in active area near metro, atms, cafes, bus stops, super market, etc.

Our old-standby restaurants (in the Marais) - very informal:
Equinox - R. des Rosiers - €15 three-course menu (entree, plat, dessert) - choices vary from "tasty-sounding" to "not sure I want to eat that" - so check the menu board each day.
Pizza Sant'Antonio - 1, rue de la Verrerie - excellent pizza and salads.
Ice Cream: Amornio - this is a chain with many locations
Great Park for a walk: Parc des Buttes Chaumont
