Sorry, I can't vouch for either one of the places you mention, but I can very highly recommend Le Mas Perreal - which is only natural as my wife and I are the innkeepers!
We moved to Provence three years ago and have spent much time and effort renovated and old farmhouse in the located in the Luberon. I think you'll find it's a perfect honeymoon (or 2nd or 3rd) spot. If you are interested, email me back and I'll send you the web address. In any case, have a wonderful trip. Provence is a little slice of heaven, you'll love it. |
Wanderer~We sent and received a fax for La Maison Bournissac. We have also reserved dinner for the first night. The response was gracious. I appreciate the info about the article. We are very much looking forward to our stay there.

I planned our September 2003 trip using the following web site for B&Bs and small hotels. All were wonderful. We especially loved L'Eveche in Vaison-la-Romaine. A beautiful town and a spectacular B&B with delightful English speaking hosts. Another truly lovely B&B is Mas de la Beaum in Gordes. http://avignon-et-provence.com/avi/gb/pres/p1.htm

The mas in Gordes mentioned in the previous post looks attractive. Am wondering whether on a 2-night stay one would have time to take a look around Menerbes and Rousillon or if that would be too much driving. ??

Hopingtotravel,
The Lubéron villages (Oppède-le-Vieux, Ménerbes, Gordes, Rousillon) are sufficiently close together that you could easily tour them in 2 days. |
The main Lubéron villages--Oppède-le-Vieux, Ménerbes, Bonnieux, Gordes, and Roussillon--are sufficiently close together that you can easily tour them in 2 days.

Don't know why those posted twice. Sorry.

Gordes to Roussillon = 15 minutes drive
Gordes to Menerbes = 20 minutes drive |
If you don't mind being out in the country instead of in a village, Le Moulin de Vernegues is delightful. There is a pool, an excellent restaurant and a lovely alley of plane trees on the grounds. There is also a nice golf course if you're into golf. The staff speak excellent English and are very helpful with sightseeing.
It's an easy drive to most of the Luberon villages and is halfway between Aix en Provence and Avignon on the N7. You can easily reach St. Remy and Arles. We usually stay a week and have no trouble finding things to do in the area. It is out in the country though. That's why we like it. ttp://www.aix-en-provence.com/moulinvernegues |
Sounds wonderful. Definitely will have something to look forward to during our northern weather.

I am probably too late with this note, but just in case you haven't finalized your hotel in Paris, I cannot say enough about our last hotel stay there. It was our third trip to Paris in 30 years, and the best, partly because of our wonderful hotel. Have a look at http://www.hoteldaubusson.com/ to see what I mean. We had a change of plans on a Middle East excursion, so quickly headed north. Fortunately, I went on Fodors while still in Egypt and read the rave reviews for this hotel. We were lucky enough to get a week's stay, because someone had cancelled just the day before I called. It is a gem and the location cannot be beat. For us there is no place like the Left Bank - St. Germaine, St. Michel, etc. You can walk everywhere (this hotel is 1/2 block off the Seine, yet on a narrow one way street. It was very small, quiet and luxurious - and I just happened to turn 53 the day we arrived. I had totally forgotten mentioning that fact in my conversation, and to my surprise there was a chilled bottle of champagne awaiting us, along with a regularly replenished fruit basket. You walk out the door and go straight to the Louvre, left to the Muse d'Orsay (our favorite, be there when it opens and go right upstairs to see the impressionist gallery before the crowds roll in), or right to Notre Dame cathedral. Or turn left out the door and wander the narrow cobblestone streets, window shopping, eating, and drinking great inexpensive wine, and just watching the fashionable Parisiens hurrying by. When we were just too exhausted to sit up in a chair for dinner some nights, we would pick up some great international meal in the neighborhood, and relax in our little seating area, eating off lovely china, and catch up on the world via CNN. Happy second honeymoon!

While the Hotel Daubusson does sound and look amazing, at $260 - $410 Euros per night (they offer 1x1 exchange rate) its a little too rich for my budget. But thanks for the heads up.

Check out Karen Brown's suggestions. We have never gone wrong staying at her recommended properties. She has on her website both a list of b and b's that are great as well as inns that are very nice. Also check out the Relais et Chateaux,as well as the Chateaux & Hotels de France. |
