Finding a hiking trail in Switzerland
 

I would like to re-hike a trail I hiked many years ago in Switzerland. Here is what I remember.

I believe it was south of Basel (Aesch) and probably to the east.
I was dropped off at the beginning of the hike and picked up at the end. Since my friend was driving from Aesch I think it was no more than an hour or so from there to both the beginning and the end.
The hike took about a half day as I recall.
The most notable feature of the hike was that it followed (in part at least) an old unpaved road that had been built by the Swiss military. Along the way several Regimental Crests (or whatever they are called in the Swiss military) were carved into the rock. Some still had their painted colour on them. I would guess the road had been built around the time of WW1.

Can anyone identify the location from this? Neckervd? WeisserTee?

There are a great many paths and roads and bridges that were built by the army, most of them in WWII, every other community has one or two, so this is a tricky one.

What’s even more tricky: If it took an hour to drive from Aesch, east or south-east, that could be a long way from Aesch and therefore from the Canton of Basel-Land (the Canton Basel is comprised of two half-cantons, Basel-Stadt = city and Basel-Land = countryside). Quite likely that would have taken you into the Canton of Solothurn or even beyond.

But I suggest you start here, at an organization that looks after “Wanderwege” - hiking paths (of which Switzerland prides itself all over) of both Basels. The URL is at www.wanderwege-beider-basel.ch, it is in German of course, but look at place names and look them up to refresh your memory, and contact the organization with as many details as you can give them, via the email address of [email protected]

The equivalent organization for the adjacent Canton of Solothurn is www.solothurner-wanderwege.ch - if you contact them, the email address is [email protected]

It only takes 45 minutes from Aesch to arrive in Aarau in the Canton of Aargau - so you might have taken your hike there, and an organization that might be of help is www.aargauer-wanderwege.ch with contact via [email protected]

I think the hike was running from Aesch to Laufen along the Birs river past a place called "Chessiloch".
