I used SOS Medicins when I got very sick in Paris
(recommneded by our apt rental agency.) English speaking MDs available, make house calls if necessary. The doctor arrived within an hour, examined me and wrote several RXs. Impressive service.01 47 07 77 77. I believe there is an American Hospital in Paris as well. Good luck. It's hard to have things like this happen while traveling away from home.

I'd like to add that you should see a doctor in Spain even if you are taking the train out, because the constant motion of a train can also aggravate a head injury, likewise heavy lifting of luggage.
I understand this isn't what you asked and probably not what you want to hear, but I do advise you get to a hospital ER where you are. No one will have trouble understanding that you fell and are that your head hurts. They'll give you a scan.

SOS Médecins is a waste of time if you think you are going to need an X-ray or a scan. You should go to a hospital or a "centre médical" when you arrive, for example the Centre Médical Saint Michel: http://www.centre-medical-stmichel.com/
They have emergency service and normal treatment every day except Sunday.

for heaven's sake, a head hurting isn't trivial, you could have a concussion, sometimes symptoms don't show up for several days. Although I would expect more symptoms than just hurting if you had one. At least seek emergency care if you start vomiting or lose consciousness, even for a minute, or start seeming a little out of it or confused. And I think you are also supposed to seek emergency care if your symptoms worsen over time.

Thank you all for your replies. I called American Express Global Service and was told the closest hospital was Hotel-Dieu, right next to Notre Dame and about a five minute walk from my apartment. I spent the day there yesterday (interesting how similar it was to NYU Langone (.except no sandwiches in the Paris ER--which is regrettable as the bread is so much better in Paris). The thought was that as the edema improves I am having more sensation, but because I'm alone and flying to Venice on Wednesday, they did a CT Scan. All is normal.
They will be sending the bill to me in New York (and I did get medical insurance up to $5,000 before I left). Nonetheless, I will send the bill to the Paris Metro and hope for the best. Thank you all for responding. I did fly back from Spain and wasn't aware that head injuries can be aggravated in flying, but that was also suggested by the doctor at Hotel-Dieu. I know for the next time; hopefully there won't be a next time. Again, thanks for the responses.

Did you file a report with the Paris Metro about the incident or notify them on some manner? Wondering they would pay a bill with this having been done. I hope you did file and. That your are feeling better soon. That must have been scary!

I did file a report on the day it happened, although the station attendant seemed reluctant to take the information. I have pictures of all my injuries as well, and a hospital report. Also filed a report online and now have a case number.
Forty years traveling on the New York subway without incident and today I was almost thrown on to the track by a woman with a stroller and run into by another trying to catch her train. I won't use the Metro again--too risky. Thanks again for advice.
