Finally have decided on Rome accomodations, comments please....
 

Hello,

After going back and forth on hotels, apartments and convents. I think I have finally come down to two choices. Both are comparible regarding pricing, the Portghesi being slightly higher.

The two hotels I am looking at are:

1) Hotel Portoghesi
2) Hotel Alimandi

We are renting two rooms. One for a family of 4 (2 adults 2 children) and a second for a family of 2 (2 adults).

If anyone has good/bad comments on either one of these hotels, please advise before I send in my final reservation.

I am leaning on reserving Hotel Portoghesi, based on location.

I would choose the Portughesi for location. I have never stayed there, but stay a block over at the Due Torri in 2002. This is the historical center, handy for walking to many of the sights. We went everyday to have cocktails at the Pantheon Rotunda.

We stayed at the Alimandi in 1994. It was very nice and near St. Peters/Vatican. This area was great for the Vatican, but the neighborhood was more residential. Not as interesting or fun.

I stayed 4 nights in the Portoghesi last month and would definitely recommend it. The location is great and the room, although not large, was perfect. The breakfast was good and the people were very nice and helpful. It was easy walking distance everywhere we wanted to go.

The area is very safe, day and night. There are people on the streets late into the evening, because of the numerous restaurants and cafes in the area.
