Finalizing Nerja Reservations
 

Looking for opinions or suggestiions. We are two 50's age parents saying with our 16 year old son. We will be in Nerja at the end of August.(3 nights) Cancellation policies there are really strict so I neeed to make a good choice.
So far I have only the Hotel Carabo. Has anyone stayed there?
It seems that the Hotel Balcon de Europa is the big draw, but for accomodations for the three of us it will be more $
We will have a car so the price of the parking or availability is also to be considered. I am open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance

I just read about a place called Paraiso del Mar. Has anyone had any experience there?

We stayed at Hotel Plaza Cavana in Nerja last Sept. I don't recall the rate, but it was bad. The location was great. It was on a main street and very close to the Balcon de Europa. Noise was not an issue at least when we were there. They had underground parking - very tough to get into but doable for a skilled driver! I have heard good things about the Paraiso del Mar, but it was booked and we could not get in. The Plaza Cavana is a nice hotel and clean. I can send you some pictures if you'd like. A continental breakfast was included and it was awful.

Ops - I mean't to say that the rate wasn't bad.

Search for Paraiso del Mar and you'll find a lot of people saying great things! I tried to book two nights there for my honeymoon in September, but they didn't have any rooms available with double beds, so we opted for the parador (next door) instead. Good luck!

Chanke did the Plaza Cavana have triples? I am experiencing alot of booking problems getting 3 beds. The Parador has no exta beds allowed..I have sent a request for reservation to Paraiso del Mar and not recieved a response

Sorry I'm just now getting back. I've been out of town. I do not know if Plaza Cavana had rooms with 3 beds. Just the experiences we had with rooms/beds in Spain it doesn't seem likely. However, you might ask them if they have family room with more than 2 beds or if they have a double room with 2 double beds.

I am happy to report that the Paraiso del Mar did get back to me. (It somehow went into my spam folder so I didn't initially realize it had come) We now have our reservation set for a room that will accomodate the three of us. Everyone says how nice a place it is so we are really excited. The back and forth e-mails from the Paraiso have been super friendly and very helpful.

You should be very happy at the Paraiso. We stayed there for 3 nights & loved it.

Sephill, I am happy that you are staying at the Paraiso. I think it is the best.

We have gone to Nerja every year for the past ten years. We were there in October and returned in May. We always rent apartments.

Ian I enjoyed reading your blog on Nerja. I grinned at your remark that your plan for the day was to do nothing. We basically do nothing during our two week stay.

We are returning next May and will stay for three weeks. We love that little town. We are Americans, BTW.

Nerja is a great place to do nothing. It was our vacation in the middle of our vacation, if you know what I mean. And the Paraiso was exactly what we needed. Stunning location, great staff, great breakfast. A bunch of good restaurants 10 minutes away on foot. We loved it.

We are definately going to need a respite after all our driving and crowds. I know that although I'm so looking forward to all the "sights" and unique experiences of Spain, that two and a half weeks into the trip we will be geting tired.
Ian, I showed my 16 year old pictures from your trip. He got so excited about the beach pictures. HE IS 16! I of course got excited about seing the Alhambra. Alcazar,Seville etc. We also planned our trip with Moorish sites in mind. That's what makes planning a famaily vacation a challenge. We all like to eat. My husband the most. Any suggestions for good places to eat in Nerja. Good food, laid back atmoshere, no hype, not rip offs would be greatly appreciated.

Ayo's on Burriani Beach for paella cooked on an open fire - it's been there for 30 years. Five euros for your first plate then you can keep getting more platefuls if you like for free. It's a open air restaurant and you don't want to miss it. We were in Nerja in June and loved it.

Agreed about Burriana Beach food. Tell your son you can get a decent hamburger (hamburguesa) & fries from a beach restaurant. I forget the name, but it was ½ way down near a beach shower. Go mid-afternoon & get a jug of Sangrias. Ummmm.

The best we had was at Portofino, which is on the corner across the courtyard from the Balcon. Sea side. Italian themed food & good wine list. If you reserve ahead, you can get a seat on the railing overlooking the beach below & the Med. 30–40€ for 2 without wine.
