final tweak for Germany Itinerary
 

Day 1 We arv Berlin @12:45
Day 2 Museum Island
Day 3 Berlin, adult daughter arrives in the afternoon
Day 4- walking tour and other Berlin sights
Day 5-Berlin underground tour and other sights
Day 6- Berlin sights
Day 7- Train to Dresden
Day 8 Dresden, Royal Palace and Green Vault,Christmas Market starts
Day 9 train to Bamberg, explore Bamberg
Day 10 daytrip on train to Wurzburg or Nurnburg
Day 11 Early Train to Munich-
DAy 12 visit Dachau
DAy 13 Munich-tour Deutsches and maybe City Walk
Day 14 Pick up car and drive to Linderhof,Wieskirche and either Obermmergau or Mittenwald
Day 15 Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau
DAy 16 - to Rothenburg (maybe stop in Dinkelsbuhl enroute)
Day 17- morning in Rothenburg and then to Rudesheim
Day 18 Rheinfels Castle and Marksburg to Frankfurt
Day 19 fly out at 7:20

Some of you had said to add a day to Munich so I have. Now what are your thoughts on DAy 10 of either Wurzburg or Nurnburg. I wish I could just wait and organize this when we are there but it sound like train travel is considerably more if I wait till the last minute and don't have a rail pass.
The only other possible change is to go from Bamburg to Wurzburg by train , leave our luggage at the station and then after our visit take the train to Rothenburg. Then we would take the train from Rothenburg to Munich.This would probably mean 2 nights in Rothenburg instead of Bamburg. The only advantage of this is that we would not need to drive into Rothenburg. What is it like to drive into Rothenburg and Bamburg? Thoughts??? Thank you for all of your help, I am ready to get hotels booked.

If you can get settled in quickly enough, take your walking tour of Berlin the afternoon of your arrival -- or, at latest, the very next day. The tour will give you a better sense of the city layout and better understanding of what you will see and do during the rest of your stay.

As Bamberg, Wurzburg and Nurnburg are all within Bavaria, you can use a Bayern Ticket so there is no need to book in advance to get the cheap price.

We want to wait and do the walking tour when our daughter arrives.
mjdh, that is appealing so I would not need to make the decision now. How do I go about to get the Bayern Ticket, is it on the Bahn site? Would the Bayern Ticket also includ Wurzburg to Rottenburg?
Would you have a preference Nurnburg or Wurzburg.

You can find more about the Bayern Ticket on the DB website http://www.bahn.com/i/view/GBR/en/pr...r-ticket.shtml It includes bus, tram, S-bahn, U-bahn and regional trains in the entire Federal state of Bavaria, so also includes Würzburg and Rothenburg.

I've not been to Würzburg so can give no opinion on that, it has been some years since I was in Nuremberg but I recall it being an interesting town.

Have not been to W-burg, but my (limited) understanding is that N-burg has one of the most famous Christmas markets in Germany. Though I suspect W-burg's will be quite nice as well.

True and also the most crowded and with plenty of made in China trinkets. We did not care for it at all. Wurzburg OTOH is always a delight and the markets more interesting and quaint.

If we choose Wurzburg the purpose would be more for the Residenze Palace than market but that would be a bonus.

We found the Residenz well worth a visit but I would not make a trip just for that. The city itself is lovely and very pleasant for a stay or a visit.

Or we would visit while there and certainly enjoy some wine in the cellar of the Residence. I guess the choice narrows down to do we want another market or palace. I guess the other thought is do Wurzburg the day that we leave Rothenburg but that would mean then that we could not do Dindelsbuhl because we would need to get to Rothenburg earlier in the day. Choices, choices, choices! Nurnburg market, Dinkelsbuhl or Wurzburg?????
