Final 2 nights for 14 day itinerary....need suggestions

We have 15 people traveling by public transportation. Here is our current itinerary.

Munich - 5 nights
Berlin - 3 nights
Boppard - 3 nights
Frankfurt - 1night to fly out

We have 2 more nights for either before Berlin or after. Any suggestions would be great!

It would seem to make sense to stop somewhere between Munich and Berlin, or between Berlin and Boppard.

I am going to try and recommend things that are easy to plan and execute by train. There are certainly a ton of great places to spend 2 days along either route, but not all of them are going to be a comfortable goal for 15 people traveling together.

You can travel by train from Berlin to Boppard in about 6 hours with 1 change in Frankfurt. There are other options for a change, like Cologne, but Frankfurt is the fastest. You can also travel from Munich to Berlin direct, with no changes, in about 6 hours.

Since the Munich to Berlin portion is a little easier, without a connection required, it might make sense to take advantage of that and not stop along the way. Breaking up the trip to Boppard, which requires a train connection anyway would seem to "interrupt" your trip transportation less. However, the rail stops along the various routes between Berlin and Boppard aren't the most interesting places for a group of 15 to stay for 2 days - depending on what you want to see, of course.

Hamburg could be an option - it is only 1:40 from Berlin, direct and then from Hamburg to Boppard is about 5.5 hours with 1 change in either Frankfurt, or Koblenz.

Visiting Hamburg would give you a chance to see a little different part of Germany as, for centuries, it was part of the Hanseatic League involved in the North Sea trade. It really is a beautiful city worth a couple of days.

If you want other ideas and don't mind a couple of connections, slow trains, and longer trips, let me know and also what you might want to see in this new stop you plan.

Bamberg is on the train line between Munich & Hamburg; Bamberg has a great center, and is also wonderful for beer (unfiltered Kellerbier; smoked Rauchbier); you could side-trip to Nuremburg or Wurzburg from there easily too (each are under an hour by train),

Oops - - I meant Bamberg is on the line between Munich and Berlin.

Thank you for the suggestions. We aren't opposed to an extra stop along the way. It would be nice on either side to have a break mid-way since these both are going to be long rides.

I loudly second the vote for some time in Bamberg!

Bamberg definitely!

Bamberg is surely an excellent choice. Another interesting option on the way from Munich to Berlin would be Erfurt and Weimar.

Here's another vote for Bamberg, particularly if anyone in your group enjoys drinking beer.

I can highly recommend the Hotel Weierich, right in the old center of Bamberg. They took very good care of us when we stayed there in 2007. They have a nice little restaurant on the ground floor that was affordable with tasty food.

We have decided on Bamburg. Thank you for your recommendations!

I would add days onto Berlin, as 3 is not nearly enough. You could also add at least one day to tour Frankfurt.

Great that you chose Bamburg - you'll really enjoy it. I stayed there 'by accident' once and have been back twice.
