This week a friend gave me a three in one mysteries on 2 DVDs photographed in Marseille and Cassis. You can really appreciate the area . The film is FABIO MONTALE.
It stars Alain Delon, now at 72, playing an interesting on the verge of retirement Police inspector.

If I had known that this was shot in Marseille and Cassis, I would have watched it when they showed it on TV a few years ago even though I'm not an Alain Delon fan today(but still saw some movies with him he was young).

I have been visiting Marseille and Cassis regularly last years partly for Calanque hikes. Was in Marseille a month ago and will be there and Cassis again in September, taking 2 friends who want to discover the calanque of En-Vau among others.

Enjoy the DVD.

Fabio Montale is a TV series.

For serious lovers of Marseille, you should try to locate films by Robert Guédiguian, who makes all of his films in Marseille. A few years ago, "Marius et Jeannette" was a big sleeper hit throughout France and the star Ariane Ascaride (Guédiguian's wife) won the French Academy Award for best actress.

Another Marseille film of interest is Nénette & Boni by Claire Denis, which has the American filmmaker Vincent Gallo in the surprising role of a baker.

Oh yes, Plein Soleil. Purple Noon, is that the American/English title ? I thought (like many others) then he was an ominously beautiful man.

I haven't read the books the series was based on by Jean Claude Izzo's three books, but everyone who has, think they are very good and the Delon captures Fabio's personality.
